View Full Version : Rear Fender Mock Up

so i pulled my rear fender today & started the mock up for my one that i have had for almost a year now. i am gonna have to wait to get it in the right spot though, i need to get my C&C LoPro seat so i know how high to set the front part of it. that way it will match up nicely with the seat.
the only thing that i dont like is that i have a gap between the fender struts & the fender itself. the R fender was wider & recessed so that the struts would fit right up against the fender itself. dont know how i am gonna figure this out just yet. i thought about changing them out for the ones off of X Choppers but i can only see side pics of them i need to see some from the top to know what i am dealing with.

you could use some threaded bungs welded in that act as spacers but that doesn't solve the gap problem.

He said 'bungs'! HE HE HE! Seriously though, if you're going to do any welding, might as well split the fender down the middle and weld in a strip of metal and widen the fender.

I would probably try to fab up a solid spacer to match the size of the strut. Could be done out of steel or polymer. What is the thickness on each side?

there is about a 1/2in gap on each side.

If it's only 1/2" on each side I like Shadowsquids idea with the 2 x 4's. Or give JJ a call and have him fab it out on one of those anvil machines. Personally, I think it looks good to go. I like where you are going with the fender....will look great.

well i have had to ditch the fender. it sits to low for my new seat & just wont look right the way i would have to set it on there. so i am just gonna get a C fender for it & ship this one off to Eagle for his build.

That's disappointing the fender didn't workout for you. I've been wanting to get rid of my C stock fender and run one like you were planning.
XChoppers has this one http://xchoppers.com/product_info.php?cPath=55_225&products_id=38 that I'm screwing up the courage to buy.

Wish I could have helped make it work man...but you will see it put to good use either on the bobber build or when I bag out my '00.

so i almost got my C fender finished for the bike. last night i cut the inner tail light bucket out and welded a new piece of sheet metal back to the inside of the fender to basically cover the hole back in. then i just had to add some body filler and smooth it all out. i just have a little sanding left to do tomorrow then i can primer & paint it up. i picked up some black metallic paint today but it is not an exact match for the factory paint so probably next weekend i will scuff up the tank & repaint it. when i am finished you wont even be able to tell that this was a C fender. i should have taken some pics from the start but didnt think about it till i was halfway done. so here is a quick pic of it just waiting to be sanded in the morn.

yea its had one on it for a year now. so i started painting it a little while ago & i'll be damned if this paint is not flat back. i told that guy that i wanted a black metallic paint. anyways i just put the 3rd coat of clear on it & it is starting to shine up pretty nice. once the paint is completely cure & i can finally buff it out, it should look really good. i'll throw some pics up later tonight when i am finished.

man that pissed me off when i did it. i'm gonna let it cure really good for about 30 days or longer then i'll hit it with a buffer & some light compound. then it should really shine. i still have the tank, forks, & calipers left to paint as well.

i ordered mine from DDM. i dont need to put it in the bike to second it. i have them in the truck 7 the Vette & they are awesome. my low beams on the truck are as bright as the regular high beams. these are awesome lights.
