I have a 13 year old whos has been buggin the shit out of me since I got my bike ,for me to put the back rest and seat on and take hime for a ride.
Problem
1.This is the first year with my licence
2 I.crashed a bike at 14
3.never had a passenger.
4.Took 25 yaers for me to actually pluck up the courage to go get licence..
Question..
I feel as if i am a safe rider is there anything that I should know about carrying a passenger, Is it just like when you were younger and you were giving your buddies a backy or is it a little harder to get use to ..A little worried to cause its my kid and he only 13.....

don't be nervous ! Tell the young lad to sit still and lean with you when you lean. It might feel a little different when you first take off, but, if your passenger doesn't wiggle around while your going down the road you probably won't even know he's there. Take him, get him interested in a GOOD thing while you can.

The first time I rode my kid he was trying to lean the other way around turns. Make sure they lean with you and they don't try to fight the fact that you are leaning the bike to make a turn.

Do you have a sissy bar ...? That is a big help to allow the passenger to relax, which makes it easier on you.

LOL- THIS MAKES ME LAUGH,REMINDS ME OF THE FIRST TIME I GAVE MY WIFE A RIDE.
SHE WOULD ETHIER TRY TO LEAN THE OTHER WAY ON A TURN OR WHILE MAKEING A TURN SHE WOULD TRY TO STAND THE BIKE BACK UP,VERY HARD PASSENGER
TO TEACH.THE WAY THAT I FINALLY GOT HER TO RELAX WAS.I TOLD HER OK
THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO HOLD AROUND MY WAIST REALLY TIGHT
AND WHEN I'M GOING TO TURN STICK YOUR NOSE RIGHT INTO THE BACK OF MY NECK
AND DONT MOVE AT ALL.A FEW TIMES AND SHE GOT THE HANG OF IT.

FUNNY THING WAS I WAS NOT TRYING TO REALLY TEACH HER CAUSE I KNEW ]
SHE WOULD NOT RIDE WITH ME OFTEN.I ONLY WANTED TO FEEL THE
BREAST PRESSED AGAINST MY BACK.THATS WHY I TOLD HER TO HOLD ON TIGHT.

Question..

Let me share my experience. I used to ride a LOT... life took me away from my bikes... I just got back on in September. I have a wife and two boys 15 and 16. Everyone has ridden with me by now.... The advice to just have them lean is something that my boys didn't understand when stated as 'lean with me'. They will try to help you ballance the bike and that though not a huge problem is a distraction that you would just as soon not have to deal with.

After thinking about what they each were doing when riding with me, I told them to just stay 'with my body' and not to attempt to judge balance of the bike. When they followed this instruction, then it was much easier to adjust pitch with them on the back. It makes all the difference not having to compensate for over compensation of a rider. If the rider is staying tight to your body movements then you only have to deal with normal ballance issues.

End result... All three of them love to ride with me and I enjoy riding with them almost as much as being solo in the saddle. Even my wife who is parinoid to ride with anyone (including me) in a cage, enjoys sitting on the throne seat and taking in the views without fear.

Take short test runs where you don't need to get fully up to speed. These trips will teach you and passenger quickly the finer points of two up riding. Highway is a panacia<sp> that doesn't rely nearly as much on technical riding skills as the local jaunts.

Enjoy!

I'd suggest you go downtown and pick up a hooker on your bike and take her home. YOu can get the feel of it with her on the bike and if you wipe out, no big deal! She's just a slut anyway....... Just an idea

If you have only been ridding a year, there is lots of time. Kid is only 13 not 23. Imagine how you would feel if you dumped it with your kid on back. Give it some time. Most wrecks happen close to home with new riders. You are the parent. Tell them not yet. It should be a happy day, maby even a right of passage that they get to ride with dad. Maby I am over protective. I would make mine wait a little longer.

My 8 year old son loves to go riding with Dad. Make sure you get him a good fitting helmet! Start out in a big parking lot and just go straight. Make sure you are going fast enough for easy control but not too fast. Just get the hang of it away from traffic. Not that hard to do. Just takes some practice to know how they are going to react on the back of the bike.
