View Full Version : Time to MOD the X !

nealdrums

Well, the X arrived in my garage around 6pm est. First thing I did was put the new battery in and start it up. Bike was cold, hasn't run in a few. So choke out and started right up. while warming up, I noticed a drip. Antifreeze dipping from lower hose. Tightened up, and all was fine. Once warm, took it around the neighborhood. FUCK, the open headers is loud. and got a sputter every so often. But that could also be cause it was about 38* out, and the bike wasn't regularly ridden lately. Gotta tune it up and change all the fluids.

Here it is in the garage before I touched anything.
http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/nealdrums/bike/2011-12-13_19-37-38_889.jpg

Here is the X and the C2
http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/nealdrums/bike/2011-12-13_20-49-56_983.jpg

and a front profile
http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/nealdrums/bike/2011-12-13_20-53-05_772.jpg

I already swapped out the levers. Stock X levers on the C2, and the flame levers now on the X. Removed the Chin Scoop off the C2, and made sure it will fit on the X. Frame is the same dimensions in the front, so it will work. :jamming:
I'm missing the left mirror on the X, so I am just gonna buy a new set, like the one's I have on the C2. They are cheap enough on egay.

I may also swap handlebars. I love my 1 1/2" T-Bars and want them on the X. Just gotta make sure the X bars look ok on the C2. And I also have a brand new set of front turns, just like I have on the C2, for the X. But they may wait until I get the rake kit.

I will update as I do more

I was thinking the same thing TI, attributed it to the bars. Neal, I have a set of mirrors like you have on the 750. Let me see if I can find them and check them out and you can have them for shipping.

Update:
I already installed my new Road Burner 2 1/2" large radius pipes http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23738
Picked up a set up 11 1/2" Progressive shocks w/HD springs. Will see how I like them.
Already have an Irate customs flame skull radiator cover (just like the C2 had)
Gotta put on the chin scoop from the C2 onto the X
Purchased a Kuryakyn Pro-R Hypercharger used from a member on another forum, should have it soon
Ordered my FP stage 3 Jet kit yesterday
Bought glens perm. a/f screw new from another member on the CAFE
ordered my new bars. 1 1/2" CP Villain bars (pictured below)
Ordered pair valve block off plates
Purchased Kuryakyn transformer backrest
Hope to start by the end of the month, begining of Feb.

Got much more planned:
6* raked trees w/2" fork extensions
1800C rear wheel w/200 metz
New Seat
New mirrors
Glens clutch relief
Glens gas cap hinge
Possibly Forward control extensions(another member on the CAFE is working on a prototype like scootmods)
Probably more.......

So I had a day off of work and the kids were in school, so I got to do some work on the X today.
Put on the Irate customs Radiator Cover
Removed pair valve and installed block off plates
Installed Glens permanent a/f screw
Rejet with FP stage 3 kit. 220 main 58 pilot clip on 3rd notch a/f 2 turns.
Installed Kury ProR hypercharger
changed antifreeze , since the tank was already off.
Installed CP Villain 1.5" bars & re-routed cables behind the tree. (gonna have to get braided clutch cable and a little longer braided brake line)
I purchased new mirrors, like I have on the 750, should have them in a week.
I still have the Kuryakyn Transformer backrest to install.

Here is some updated pics of the progress

Have you seen the post at the cafe I think, it is about putting a 230 on a stock 1300 c rim? From the pics it looks good but I would like to see one in person, and a 230 ain't much higher than a 200. they said with the narrow wheel it's about as wide as a 200 or 210.

yea i've talked with Stump several times about this, putting a 230 on the factory rim is basically a waste of time. all it is gonna do is balloon the tire out & it will not look right. there was a guy that did it last year & you could see the bulging in the pics. now what i plan to do down the road is to purchase another rim & ship it off to Stump & have him widen it out to fit the 230. then very little modification has to be done to the swing arm in order for it to fit properly.

Ears are going as soon as I find time to wire the integrated turns into the brake light. Still trying to decide what to do with plate. Not sure if I want a side mount, or just modify the bracket to bring the plate closer to the fender. Probably gonna do the second option for now.

If you unbolt the bracket that holds the plate, plate light and gars off you can just bolt the plate to the metal bracket behind all that.

Its moves it up a couple inches and gives it a nice curve.
I almost left mine like that before I made my side mount.
I just used self tappers to put mine on but you could drill holes and bolt it.

Just a thought it takes about 10 minutes.

That cleaned up the bars nicely! Is the option of removing the return cable on the throttle doable on the VTX like it is on the VT? Seems like it would be about the only thing left to remove on the bars, short of going with an internal throttle. Looking good, bro. You have put a lot of work into that beast.
