I am wanting to put a straight drag bar on my bike and looking for some ideas and ask if there is any modifications that need to be done to do this. Its going on my 2006 VT100 Spirit.

lOL...ff212 I was thinking the same thing, almost didn't want to look at the thread. Well noobuloid, it's after midnight so me being nice today is over and the talons are now sharpened on this old eagle. Seriously, what Mods need to be done on changimg the bars...this is why I really need to persue that mobile motorcycle service idea...I digress...all you need to do is find what bars you want and get an allen wrench and phillips head screw driver and swap the bars.

I can't help it, still got to be somewhat nice, heres a simple plan for you;

1) first you should think about what is comfortable for you and not just what looks good unless this is just going to be a bar hopper or trailer queen. I hD drag bars on mine at first but it gave me a stiff neck because of the ride hight so I switched to z-bars with ride position close to that of stock. 1" bars.

2) remove switch housings (phillips head screw driver)

3) remove bars (allen wrench)

4) remove throttle tube.

5) depending on if you purchased dempled bars you will need to mark and drill your bars for the switch housings.

6) to remove the clutch side grip it is easiest if you have an air house and small flat head screw driver, create a little space and then use air to loosen grip and twist off.

7) reinstall everything in reverse order. Use hair spray to lube clutch side grip. Airosole will evaporate and hIr spray will allow grip not to slip.

Good luck!

It's easier to grind down the nipples inside the housings.

Agreed, but I just hate cutting off the nipples, they're my favorite part!!!

Yes, you can...but they are there for a reason and I prefer to leave mine on...6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Can be done either way and provides tedious work wither way.
