Im just curious but why do you need that SPECIFIC measurement if the bars you are looking at are a direct bolt on? Oh wait I see...........Guess I should have read the post a little closer. DUH!!!!!!!!! I'll get the measurements for ya.

I havent a clue about your carb(s) but if it states its only for a 99 and up its got to be for specific reason. Can you help him Ghostrider? Mine is a 2002, so it is a little different in some aspects.

see i have seen a 95 with the hypercharger on it. the difference is the 88-98 have a dual carb where as the 99 up has a single carb...or so i am told.

I know CP makes bars for the VLX, friends of ours bought a set from them. They aren't the same as the ones for the spirit (which happen to be the same for the v-star).

Stage 1 jet kit is good with open pipe and free flow intake like K&N, with Hypercharger you need larger mains. Yes Pre 99 VLX has 2 carbs and after 99 use single, so both jet kit and ypercharger are NOT interchangeable.

For after 99, most folks set the needle clip on 4th notch frm the top, with 142 main jet.

For Pre 99 check out www.bikercom.com for adapter plate, you will need it to mount the hypercharger to stock airbox. Just make sure you are buying the correct year.

Other high performance part? few I know of are Barnett clutch plate & springs, also high performance cam. I don't hv enough knowledge about the cam but not many people use it. As for the clutch, as far as I know stock one is more than enough for anything you can throw at VLX, even for drag strip.

Other than intake, jet kit and exhaust, you may want to try advancing the timing about 4 degree. It's so easy, no cost and the result is fantastic. Lighter & faster throttle response. If you ride in highway a lot, next step is to change sprocket to reduce rpm.

Frm what I heard you can mount just about any hypercharger, so long as you have the adapter mounted to the part of your stock air box, but not 100% sure though. I would suggest to get the one for VLX since there are already some riders using them, it would make the jetting easier.

What jet kit do you have? Dynojet stage 1 comes with a main jet and jet needle which has 6 clips. Stage 2 or 3 basically just another set of larger main jet .

If your jetk kit is Dynojet, just buy a couple of mainjet (must be the 'DJ' code), they cost about $2 each. Get DJ142 mainjet like others and also a number above and below for fine tuning. Others have put the needle clip on 4th notch frm the top. To do this you must cut the needle (2 clips at the top) in order to install the needle cap.

I know a little bit about carbs but I've never install Hypercharger, so pls double check with others who has it.

My rear wheel is Enkei solid aluminium, got it frm a local shop in Singapore. It comes with rear sprocket holder, rubber damper and collar so it's completely bolt on. I even use the stock tire. I'm not sure if it's available in US but you can check with shops who brings in Japanese parts.

BTW you can improve the sound of your cobra fatties as well as making it flow more free to work with the hypercharger. If you like loud, get Big City Thunder mOnster baffles, louder but very deep and nice : )

I made my own because they don't have the size I need for my custom pipe.

:wall: Forgot that yours is dual carbs...the 142 mains and 4th clips are for single carb set up.
Check with this guy, Shadow Shack: http://shadow-shack.20m.com/
He owned a few VLX and one of them use Hypercharger, dual carbs. He also hosting a great VLX forum.

ok i got the bars on the way the cobra fatties are on it. i ran around for 2 weeks on it running lean but oh well i did a tune up plugs and oil change did a plug test found out it was running lean so i parked it till the jet kit come on thursday. the bars should be here next week along with the chrome switch housings and master cyliner cover. i got the adapter plate from biker come and ordered the tear drop intake with flames insted of the hyper charger do to a vacum set up problem that the pre 99s have. oh and i have mirrors coming too. now all i have to wait for is some one to make a wide tire kit for the 600 and a custom set of rims from some one. but now the bike is pretty much done. i also have a chrome tank chap that i am bidding on too. will have pics soon
