Hey people,

Does Any one out there know if there is a way to mod the stock exhaust on a '04 Aero? I have read about the "Holesaw" mods posted in other forums (AirportFF). I would like to get a little more sound. Also, if there is a method to achieve this what if any adjustments must be made to the fuel/air/carb settings?

Thanks Airport, I will check that site out. I think the problem is that to my knowledge that pipe is a wierd set up. I believe that the baffles in that pipe are a series of tubes with "baffles" within each. and that to preform this sort of mod would mean "punching" numerous hols in these pipes at different depths. but hey I do not know much about these bikes, that is why i am here.

Got the perfect link for ya.

http://sa750.com/

go to the Modifications Tab. Then Exhaust. And click on the Stock Exhaust Mod 1.

But if you don't feel like reading that, here is what you do. Get a piece of rebar, sharpen one end to some sort of a point. At the end of the exhaust are two holes at 12 and 6. Take the rebar and put it in each one of the holes until it hits the baffle, and whack the shit out of it with a hammer until you puncture the baffle. You can go one step further and drill two more holes at 3 and 9 (stock holes are at 12 and 6) just big enough for the piece of rebar to fit. And give each one of those new holes a whack with the hammer.
With just knocking the baffles in the stock holes you can only notice a difference when you roll on the throttle. With the two extra holes you notice the difference at idle.
Hope this helps. If not, the site will show ya.

In my opinion it sounds good. And mine is the only one that counts!! :wink_2:

If the exhaust on the Aero is the same as the ACE, and I believe they are, the mod on the SA750 site does work well and is very easy. I had done it and the sound was much better than the original.

You did not notice any apparent hissy or air leak type of noise? And also it did not have the 'tinny' noise that hollowed cans have...

The sound was great. I used the largest rebar I could find and made the extra holes in the back plate 1". It actually had a deeper sound than the 2" drags I have on the bike now. I only went to the drags to make it louder. I never had any hissing. I have actually considered removing every baffle in them and putting them back on my bike. Here is another link for a mod you can do on the stock exhaust. I like the looks of this one, but it is quite a bit more work.

I am really thinking about doing that myself and taking my Drag pipes back off. That big cannon with no baffles has got to have a deep rumble.

I may have some available soon. If I decide to do the exhaust mod above I will have some Cobra 2" drag pipes available. The are the ones in my pic. I will post on the site once I decide what I am doing.

Ok I talked with Keller1 today, and this is what he said about the mod.

Difficultly not too bad. But you are going to need some skills and some tools. Welder (obviously a MIG is prefered), a band saw (large enogh to fit the pipe into) and access to someone that can chrome it all purdy. oh ya and a torch (I am guss and "basic" Torch)

Here is what he said/

First cut off about 12" of the stock pipe (from the end), I am guessing that he used the band saw for this part. Next, use the torch to gut the pipe.

He Then used a 3 1/2" Sch 40 90 degree steel pipe. O.K. Here is where i think he makes a mistake in the descritption. There is no such thing (to my knowledge, my father has owned a plumbing ang heating company for some time now) What he must mean is a 4" i.d. 90 not 3.5". either way this fitting is a butt weld fitting. You then tack and weld the "tip" to the pipe

Using the the Band saw you cut the desired slash in the "tip".

Bring it ll to the chrome shop, and tell them to triple chrome it.

that is it...

Questions:

What about Jetting????
What about heat?
and that 90 weighs about 5 lb's

Either Way..I have been looking at a number o mods. for the work, this one looks the most professional...and interesting.

Post away :gossip:

Totally, that is what it is. But I am doing a little research. I may switch this to a light wall, sch 15 or something that effect. Only to maintain the overall balance.

I thin what will happen is that i will weight what i have taken off versus what i wil be replacing it with..

So you'll listen to croach but not me. That's fucked up. I tell you about it and you say it is sketchy. Croach chimes in and you're ready to go steal some rebar from the construction site. Man... and he doesn't even ride the same bike as we do. Freakin Crackher.

I'm just kidding. :wink_2:

Easy Rhino...Don't come charging out at me...

This is what i have come up with to solve my issue..

I am going to try the bar method first..then once i find a reliable Chrome Shop nearby i will be "upgrading to another mod"

Ok well I sat down this weekend and really started looking at the exhaust. Developing the plan of attack if you will.

I am till trying to determine if I am going to have to replace the tip after I get it off. The problem here are the welds Honda put to hold it on. I can dremel them off easily, but this is going to leave a large hole (these are not small tack welds) they are roughly 3/8" in dia. What a pain in the ass...

So are there tips available for stock Aero Exhaust?

First time post
I was woundering if CROACH 1 had modded the stock exhaust yet and what you think of the sound?

Welcome to the site.

He may not see this post, try sending him a pm. He's more likely to get back to ya quicker.

I did mod stock exhaust before going to the drag pipes. I liked the sound but it was not loud enough to suit me. I did not remove every plate from the inside of the stock exhaust and that would make a huge difference, may even sound better than the Cobra drag pipes with the big cannon that is stock.

I think I have the motivation to start on that this weekend and if it sounds the way I want, work on the cosmetic. I will post what I think when I get this done. Keep in mind, my exhaust is on an ACE and I understand the exhaust on the ACE and the Aero are not exactly the same even though they look the same on the outside.

Just save your pennies and buy some solid VH pipes - well worth it.
