I want to buy the bootleg intake. I occasionally get caught in the rain. If i get a cover for it, and put it on, the mixture will be too rich. Is that ok, just to nurse it home or someplace to get out of the rain? I dont want to rejet it to accomidate the cover, whats the point then. Can i just keep a cover in my saddlebag and throw it on if ??I get caught in the rain? How do you guys feel about it. Also, does the cover cover the WHOLE thing? (incase i wanted to make my own) Im trying to open the b*%ch up as wide as i can this season. new pipes/intake/jets. Thanks for the help guys. Otherwise, any suggestions (besides beanbox) that are equally as influencial on airflow as the bootleg, but not ruined by the rain? Also, are the bootleg filters the kind of thing i need to buy and replace or do you clean them? i didnt see replacement filters on the website, how do you get them, if you do at all. thanks guys, lots of questions. I did use the search button, but no threads hit the nail on the head.~Smitty

If you are jetted for it without the rain cover it'll be fine. Mine runs a bit rich when the cover is on, but I'm more then likely going to end up leaving it on and rejet after I get different pipes. I don't have bags to carry it in, and being caught in the rain without it, sux, litterally!
Not sure if anyone makes a cover for the bootleg anymore, so you may be left making one for yourself. The cover I have is open to the one end, and then there is a square opening in the side that you put down towards the engine to allow more air flow and no direct rain.

one in the same, he actually took the whole rear tire and rim about 2 weeks after he bought the cover. He was doing smoke shows and kind of wore his tire down till there was no tread left.

Thanks Jake! Do the filters need to be replaced?

THE FILTER IS A K&N FILTER.NO NEED TO REPLACE IT.YOU COULD BUY A
CLEANING/LUBE KIT TO KEEP IT CLEAN.

They are the K&N filters as mentioned. Grab yourself a cleaning kit that includes the oil for it and you are good to go for as long as you'll own the bike.
I bought another filter to mount the cover to, I didn't want the spike nut sticking through the filter when the cover wasn't on.
I'll try and get some pictures of the cover posted by the weekend.

Yeah thats what i was thinking. Jake and you say that there are vents cut in the back side to let in some air? how big are those vents?pics?(unless it would be a pain in the ass). im going to have to make my own cover too i guess

nevermind about pics jake, upon closer inspection i can see the vent on the bottom of the cover there. no rain gets up in there, or runs in from the top to bottom, or splashes? How much water messes things up on the filter. i mean will only a little water ruin its filteration capabilitys, or does it need to get real soaked to cause a ruckus?

I don't know how much rain it actually takes to effect it. I've ridden in short sprinkles and it's been fine (I've held my leg out over the filter if it rained harder for a short period). I did get caught in the rain one night coming home from work. That wasn't fun. When it gets too much water, it'll let you know. I could only get about 20 mph out of it and it was sputtering like crazy. Limped to a gas station to get under some cover. Removed the filter to try and dry it out and there was actually water inside the "snorkel" part of the intake.
With the cover on, I haven't been in a real heavy rain. The guys from TSW with them say they've had no problems. Rain can't get directly in and anything that hits the filter would drip or be blown away while driving. Widow was the guy making the covers. Looks to be about the size of a super big gulp if you are ever caught out in the rain and don't have a cover......
