Just had to post my Dissapointment on the Latest News here at The Sub-Base :pissed:
Now any of you who Ride on Millitary instalations Know we all have to go through a Gov't Requierd Saftey Course Provided by the Base to get a Sticker to get on, Now it seems Due to some Funding Issue the Base will not be providing this Course and to get the Cert out in town you have to take the "Beginner Course" which is the only one they acknowledge which will cost me $185.00 plus due to the Demand only avaiable openings aren't untill the End of May This Really Burns my ass:madani: I've been Riding and Holding a License Since 1973 When my Dad and I went through the Riding Class Together, And to have to do this over again instead of getting some advanced saftey Training is pissing me off not to mention the Cost.

i got the MSF cert. free, base paid for it, i got a letter from the safety office telling me what i had to do, somebody had told me the same thing you posted, i think that if it is a base requirement they should pay for it, something else you can do is talk to the unit resourse advisor and ask him who pays for it, the unit or the base and then wait until either one get some money, i had a friend that had a permit in the mean time until he went to the MSF class

Thanx Guys, Nal I'd go to the Unit Resorce Advisor if I we're in, I'm DOD Civy. Hell in 1975 the safety course was 2hrs. long when I was in the Corps down in North Carolina, I'll have to check with DMV to see if they give some sort of Cert for the Years I've been Riding that the Base will Accept. Or just Pony up the cash and do the Cones all over again, I was hoping for something better

Just do what I did. Go to pass and ID with your car reg and stuff. Tell them you had to replace the windshield. And you'll get a new sticker, slap that on your bike.

Hey bro you need to come out to FT. Campbell, KY the course out here is free also. They figured if they were gonna protect the soldiers they would help us out and pay for the course.

How long is the basic course bro? I know over here its like 3 days. That will rock getting three days paid to take a motorcycle course!

FrankZ
03-16-2006, 06:06 PM
Only 2 days here, someone had said I had to take leave but on checking further it was deemed an alternate worksite because it is a Base requirement not a requirement of the State as I've already passed thier Test (1973) and Have a License

Don't know about all states but this course is recognized in GA, FL and SC for sure. I was jesting about it, but realisticly, most safety certs are more for insurance cost reduction than qualifcation for license, so I'd guess that most insurance companies would recognize it for that purpose regardless of the state you're from.

Here in CT you can get your License by completing a recognized saftey course, my StepDaughter did it this past summer, do the course take the written exam at DMV show your certificate, no ride test get your motorcycle License

Nebraska is the same way. I took that MSF course and always wondered if it was valid in other states, or if you had to take the course over again.

Well I shouldn't say its that way for all Nebraska. In the rural areas you hop on a bike and they follow you around the block and that's about it. In the metro areas, which are few and far between in NE, you either have to take the DMV course or the MSF course.

I work on a military installation as well but you DO NOT have to take the course in order to be eligible to ride on the base. Although, they do offer the course and at a discount as well to any civilians that work on the base. All I had to do was show my DoD badge, drivers license insurance and registration and I was in like flynn.

Well as stated Purp We did get the Class at Zero cost on the Base no cost if your D.O.D. like myself or Navy Personel infact Tony is a Volunteer Instructor, a Cheif off of one of the Subs up here in Groton, He rides a 2003 Indian Scout and if your familiar with the Bike and the Course,he dose the 20' Box on that Scout, that's some Ridin

I've been here since '94 w/ the A-10's. This place has changed a lot since you were here.
There's even a Navy unit here, if you can believe that.

Warrensburg has grown a bunch too, we even have a Lowes now!

Yeah, we're a reserve unit. We used to be at RG, near KC, then the BRAC closed it down and moved us over here. I work full time here though. I do the same job as civil service during the week then in uniform on drill weekends.
The Army guard is still here too.

There was a stoplight on base about a block off of the flightline near the firehouse. We had control of it from the FD and could switch it to flash all red when we were responding to something. But ten we would always forget to switch it back.

Do me a favor, swing by the FD some day and see if Bill Sherwood still works there. He's the guy that I bought my first bike from. An 83 CB750 Custom. Tell him Clint said hi. That's if he evens remembers me. Oh and tell the Fire Chief, Ralph McHenry that he's a douchebag. He was my chief in Plattsburgh. Fucking Asshole!!

Hey man, sorry it took a while to reply, I've been out of town. I stopped by the FD, and neither Bill or Ralph are there any more. The guy I spoke w/ said he had been there a few years and didn't know Bill, but he did say that Ralph had retired about 2-1/2 years ago.

Yea I figured Bill was probably gone. He was a double dipper (retired master). Glad to hear Ralph is gone. He fucked me over good at Plattsburgh.
