Hey i just bought a SS and it was dropped by the previous owner. My first project will be to paint the air filter box from chrome to black. The scratches from the drop go thru the chrome to the plastic. Any suggestions on how you guys would go about repainting it gloss black.?

Time versus price...Id buy a new one. I dont know how a hard sanding & filler job will do on an elastomer, A flexible bondo plastic filler after a buff down may work.

DO NOT PAINT IT!!!!! Every one knows chrome makes it go. Use duct tape. You don't think it works? Get NASCAR type,Hillbilly chrome.

He's right. I had one of my side covers fly off and go bouncing down the road and scratched the shit out of the day old paint. I sanded the scratches down and resprayed. Although I used a textured paint on all of my plastic stuff. Looks different and doesn't show any imperfections.
