Going to start a thread here with some of the changes and mods that I am going to be doing this winter on my 09 Aero 750. I bought the bike stock in September of 2010.

One thing that inspired some of the changes occured on the Monday after Thanksgiving, my Wife's Dad passed away suddenly. He served 30 years in the United States Navy and was a Chief in the Aircraft Mechanic devision. He and I were close with respect to aviation and the military, so my wife and I decided to get Eagle Patches for our vests in rememberance of him. That led to me selecting a design from WebSlinger to incorporate into my Speedometer. After emails of proofs, a few days later it arrived in all it's glory. This weekend I took about 2 1/2 hrs to get the speedo off, apart, re-checked on the bike for zero and speed, and then put back together, but I am very happy with the results.

My wife is now calling my bike the Freedom Bike,.... and she is happy with the result and likes the meaning behind it.

Here are a few photos.

1) Speedo off teh bike and on the cloth towels, stock dial face and glass still in place.
2) Speedo removed from the crome housing and trip-meter button, ready to patiently pry the crome ring back to remove the glass
3) Needle moved over the Zero Pin, and at it's resting point, side of speedo noted with the resting point "0" position for reinstallation of the needle
4) New dial face screwed into place, needle back on the pin, time to test on the bike. - Worked fine on bike, so then the glass was placed back on and the crome band crimped back down.
5) Remounted back on the bike (sorry pic is dark, I was using a flashlight in the garage and my cell phone). Also installed the Mustang Studded Tank Bib & Pouch while I had the speedo off.

Numbers are actually easier to read than it depicts in the photo. Outside it shows up nicely and even backlit by the speedo light in the evening.

Here is the memorial Patch we found on JP Cycles that she really liked and inspired the Speedo Dial Faceplate.

I like it BOON. I've thought about the faceplate swap (and LEDs) but I'd like to see close up pics of the trim ring after reinstallation (I don't want to fudge it up). Sorry to hear about your loss.

The crome ring is a Pain in the Ass to get slowly and painstakingly pried up enough to get off the speedo, but if you take your time it works out fine. (took me nearly 45 minutes to get it off and 4-5 times around the speedo every 1/16th inch.) Some people use a dremel, and leave crimping tabs in 6 spots or so, but I didn't wan't to go that route. That's a backup in case something messed up going the traditional route of prying it up slowly.

Getting it back on without marks was easy. I used a pair of channel lock pliers, wrapped the ends in a few layers of duct tape, then wrapped the bottom grip with a microfiber towel as that would be the side against the face of the speedo. A little slow pressure every 1/4", and two laps around the speedo, and it was crimped back on good and no marks from the pliers. Once the rubber seal is back in place, you can't see any marks made to the backside of the ring that were made during prying it up.

Patience is the key to getting it done right.

Thank you for the condolences, More mods ready to happen in the next few weeks. I'll post more pics here soon.

One of the fella's told me they heard of a place in Colorando (he thinks) that you can just slip it on the make. get it made up and then it takes 10 mins to put on... end up with 4 wheels but looks like 3 .. anyone heard of this????

Barb

Barb,

Nice name. Same as my baby sister- the favorite sis.

There are several kits out there but they are not TRUE trikes. Priced around $5K. Check out http://www.towpacusa.com/ and http://voyagertrikekits.org/ Do an engine search for "voyager trike kits". Ditto for ebay.com. Also any good M/C magazine will have an advertisement from the multitude of dealers around.

Hope this gets you to where you want to go!

BarbYes, I've seen them. It looks like your bike is sitting in a wheelchair. If you want the cheap way to do it. I guess it would work, but it's not a true trike.

Edit: looks like Aero 750 beat me to it. Here is a pic of the voyager trike kit from http://www.betterthanatrike.com/

Well, with all this white snow shit in the NorthEast every few days, I was able to get out and put on some more stuff on the bike. Mounted the Eagle Air Cleaner cover and the National Cycle Engine Guards. Made a nice touch to the appearance of the bike. The cycle jack from Harbor Freight works great. Nice and stable with the straps across the lower frame.

I have a new red FlexLED from Radiantz, but it came in a smoked tube instead of the Clear I ordered. They are shipping me the clear tube, so that's going to delay some wiring I've been working on to get some more light on the rear end. I am planning to mount that in place with the BackoffXP module.

Weather finally is improving around southeast PA, and I was able to chip a path about 20 inches wide thru the ice down to the stone in front of the garage to get thru to the good side of the alley. Only did a few laps around town on the main roads that don't have cinder build-ups or melting ice/snow on the road.

Felt great to get out today after having the bike in the garage for the past 7 weeks. Keep this warm weather coming.

After all the work this winter on the bike, here's a few cool shots.
