I read over the holesaw mod for the 750 ACE and though the writer sound positive about the whole experience I also noted that he replaced the pipes he'd modified shortly after doing the work. I'm wondering if this was due to damage to the pipes in the process or a less that satisfactory outcome from it?

In the article he said that he pounded reinforcement rod though the wall plates of the baffles to open up the flow. I've hesitated now for umpteen weeks because of the thought of pounding on the exaust and what it might do to the seal on the head or any number of other aw-shits that might play into it.

The only acceptible alternative to this would seem to be having a really long drill bit to drill a 7/8" hole 'way back there' That would seem to not exert any undue presure to the mounts and get the job done. However, after looking around I can't find anyone that makes really long (maybe 36") 7/8 bits for light metal.

If I don't find such a critter or figure out a way to open up the stock exaust without beating holes I guess I'll have to wait until I can afford a different set of pipes.

Anyone have anythoughts on alternatives to banging my way to a freer flowing exaust?

Anyone have anythoughts on alternatives to banging my way to a freer flowing exaust? You could always find some metal rod and weld it to the end of the drill bit...(if it will weld) and then square the end the that goes in the drill with a bench grinder. If you decide to go this route I would try and find someone who has welding experience so that the complete rod would as true as possible. The less wabble, the better. Just a thought!

Not a bad idea....

Course what I was looking for was an inexpensive mod that would open it up a bit. As a result I was checking out the replacement exausts available. I found the Cobra 2 in. Drag Pipes going for $285 from Dennis Kirk... so by the time I would buy or have built a LOooong drill bit go to all the work to bore it out... I'm thinking I'd likely spend 65-100 bucks on parts I'd never have a need for again.. so I guess that would bring these pipes down to a little over two hundred.

Anyone have Cobra 2 in. Drag Pipes? How do they sound, what do you think of them?
