I am getting tired of opening the garage door, starting the bike and leaving it to warm up in the Alley while I go back to close the door, and walk around the garage. I don't have the budget to get a garage door opener that links with the headlight wiring or other system, so I went the cheap route with a Universal Garage Opener. I'd keep this in my jacket pocket and just reach down fuddle to find the button, and then press it while in my pocket.

I am tired of that too, since I may want to go for a quick ride with a vest instead of an armored jacket,... so where to put this thing? I looked around and found the bottom of the tank was nice and flat and I could conceal the garage opener there! Easy to reach, but also out of view, and not reaching into my pocket or a windshield bag to access.

So here is what I did.

First, I programmed both buttons to match our garage door, so it didn't matter which I pressed the door would work.

Second, installed new battery,.. just in case.

Third, covered the buttons with a piece of plastic bag (ziplock or sandwitch bag), and then electrical taped in place. To cover the remaining seams and joints in the plastic case, I trimmed the electrical tape to width and then wrapped the perimeter nicely to get a good seal.

Fourth, Fit Industrial Strength Velcro, loop piece, on the back of the opener, making sure to have access to the screws to remove the case.

Lastly, I fit a matching hook Velcro to the underside of the fuel tank, on the left side, just ahead of the seat. The depth of the tank as it terminates with a reveal, and the space behind is perfect for the opener to be hidden.

Go Ride. 52 miles today, still sitting under there nice and strong.

Thought about that, but never did it....
I actually found a programmable at home depot that is a key chain, so I can have it hanging from the key. But it was 45 bux, so didnt get it...

Nice job there aero!

I just finished this mod. I used the skylink mt-18 and hard-wired it to my high beam switch (just like Quam. Thanks Quam!) It's only $26 @ amazon. Search "garage remote success" for his how-to.
