I have no way to import the old Forum into the new. So I would say we need to start over. I think the old forum software is just old and lame and this new database driven forum will last forever. ;)

Sometimes going off topic was part of the Shadowriders charm.

As I said, If I can help offset some of the costs involved, please let me know. I have noticed on another site that the Administrator set up a link to donate via a Paypal hotlink on the site. All the moneys were deposited directly to the administrators account and helped pay for the site and various upgrades available. I think you should consider something like that.

The new forum is in MySql, but the old YaBB files are just text files. If we did get the data in I think it would be a mess. YaBB does everything in just flat files and there are thousands of them. I am real paranoid of messing with the MySql database because it might get corrupt.

There's usually an import feature for other styles of boards. I was doing a bit of reading and on phpBB there isn't a lot of success stories for transferring information and files from yaBB. Not sure what the success rate is with the import feature in vBulletin. But I can say from past experience, even the upgrade from phpBB didn't go 100%. Posts all make it, but files and pictures usually don't because they are handled differently.
Sometimes it's just best to start fresh and not bring in any of the problems that were around with the other forum style. :scatter:
