Rejet! Especially if you have raw pipes with no baffles. If you hear a lot of pops or backfires, you gone and fucked up!

If the JET you have is working - why re-jet. Myself, I prefer a reciprocal combustion engine on my bike, but each to its own.

Besides - have you any idea how much a new jet engine costs ?

:freak:

FUCK OFF NOOB

Seriously - Like Coyote said - if you have pipes with no baffles - it is a good idea to do it.

I'm putting a steam engine in mine!

Put a pot on the end of the pipes and you can have some steamed clams while you ride.

Hmmm, I wonder how a Steamed Waffle would taste?

I have heard many times over at TSW if you dont add an air cleaner then you dont have to rejet. Although I did and I think it made a little bit of a difference. your choice!!

That thunder kit is a nice setup... dial a jet.... ur talking a hundred or so for the works but why not go for the gusto and get the air opened up at the same time your still under 2 bills and no matter how you need to tune your set.

use a stage one kit now, then when you get a air intake you just have to change the jets.

My bike runs great without being jetted, even when I pull the baffles. Tiny's doesn't. I think it depends on the bike.

That is true. Some actually feel a greater performance without the baffle. Mine lost a lot of power without the baffle - regardless of what gear I was in.... It lost its get up and go. As soon as I put the baffles back in, the bike performed great. I guess you should pull you baffle and see how the bike performs before jetting.

Tiny,
The reason your bike lost power when you removed the baffles is because the engine was flowing more air without the baffles in. This additional air flow caused the engine to lean out, producing less power. The solution to this situation is to rejet, to provide more fuel for the increased air flow. It's all about the A/F ratio! You need to maintain around a 14.7 to 1 A/F ratio to make the most power the engine can muster. Whenever you change something that affects the amount of air the engine can flow, you need to compensate for the increase or decrease in volume of air flow. Slight changes, like you experience when you replace the stock paper air filter with a K&N filter, don't affect the volume of air enough to warrant a rejet. But changing the stock intake to a bootleg or a Thunder Air intake increases the volume of air the engine flows enough to require a rejet.

I chuckle at people who claim their bike runs fine without rejetting after installing aftermarket pipes,............if they only knew how much better it could run if they'd just spring for the jet kit!

I understand what you are saying but one of our competition bikes did get the jet kit and it is the worst performance/ mileage bike of the 6! Mine does run at least as good without the baffles. Could be the noise makes it feel like it has more performance but Tiny's will hardly run without the baffles! (Tiny's bike is the other one getting the jet kit and hyperchareger so that will be taken care of). By the way, the stealer did the jet kit on the one bike........

Brian

- I knew it must have had something to do with the increase flow, but never was too sure. Finally some one explained the reason why this happens. Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

A Big THANKS !

Especially since PEGS kept trying to tell me it was all in my imagination. You dont know how happy I am to read your post.

Really? I thought you helped the stealer do it so it was right!:crazy3:

Most time with dealers they will install what you tell them to, or what they think is best. They don't test the bike and usually only do the install once and tell you that's what it should be. We all know that the same bikes can run differently with the same parts installed. Most of what the dealers do are reference installs, doing what works best for the masses.
Best to try doing the set up yourself and adjusting as necessary.

So what you are saying is: DON'T TAKE YOUR BIKE TO THE DEALER FOR A JET KIT!
I would go along with that...

A dealer screwed up? Gee, that's hard to believe! (yeah, right!) Since I've owned my bikes, they have never been touched by anyone else but me! And they will stay that way! It's not just a $$$ issue, I don't trust anyone else to turn screws on my bikes. If anything gets fucked up, I'll do it myself! Then I have no one else to blame but me!I don't know how many times I've read where a dealer left something loose, off or disconnected on people's bikes when they had them do their work. That never happens to mine!

If you let me know what mods the bike has that the dealer did the rejet on, I can tell you what the main jets and needle clip location should be. The bike you're talking about that gets less MPG is probably jetted too rich. We've got a couple of 750's, so I'm fairly well versed in what different mods require as far as jetting goes. Ditto with the '87 - '96 1100's. There's probably not much elevation difference between Nebraska and this part of Ky., so what works for me will very likely be just what you need as well.

That bike has stock intake and V&H cruisers. Very doggy performance! The jet kit was installed on the bike when it was new! It has been sold but it is still in the unit as far as a competition bike. After I get mine and Tiny's rejetted, I will take a look at his.
Thanks,
