speedometer reads to fast

I have a 97 Shadow Spirit 1100. Stock rims, new tires. The speedometer reads about 3% fast compared to my GPS. Does anyone know if this speedo can be calibrated the way car's could be years ago? Has anyone else had this issue? Do they make different speedo drive gears with diferent tooth counts?

It seems all Honda speedo's are off about the same amount. There is only one part number listed for the speedo gear so it seems it is like my 06 VT750, you just know it's off and deal with it. Follow your GPS if it's that critical.

Manufacturers are allowed to be off a small percent.Probably not worth the money to fix.

FYI all speedometer's are design to read fast (up to 10%) as it cost too much for them to accurately get it spot on so it's easier for them to give a greater tolerance and make it show faster than the speed your actually doing...
How many times have you gone through a speed trap and looked at you speed and suddenly thought Oh shit your pinged and then don't get stopped, well it's because you where'd doing the speed.
This way manufactures don't have law suites from people about faulty instrumentation claiming that they were going faster than what was shown as it could be a danger when driving...

Plus most law authorities allow up to 10% over the speed limit because of this inbuilt error, not all but most...
And also now you know why some people get great MPG...
