Hey guys, looking to do the pipes/air cleaner/carb jet deal this winter. I want something LOUD with optimal power increase. What's out there that damn loud, but doesent compensate power at the mid rpm range the way drag pipes do. What spacific brands/modles meet these desctiptions? i heard a spirit 750 with some cobra pipes. not loud enough. thanks guys. ~Smitty~:biker:

Smitty,
I'd have to guess that Burbs pipes would be the loudest you'll find. I can't imagine Cobra Drags aren't loud enough! Must've been baffled. Any 2 into 2 pipes you get however, will sacrifice some low and midrange power, it's the nature of the beast. The only pipes that will help in that range would be a 2 into 1 system and I don't believe anyone makes a direct bolt-on set for the Spirit. Cobra has the PowerPro for ACE's and Aero's. If you're clever, you could probably adapt a set to the Spirit, but I doubt they'd be loud enough for your liking!

I have Vance and Hines straight shots. I had the baffles in and they are loud then I took them out, Holy damn very loud:thumbsup: . They sound great at Idle "Harley like" and even better when you get on it. I'm VERY happy with my pipes. I have heard the Cobras and they don't sound that loud at idle:stunned: , but are OK when you give it gas.

I had a set of Chrome Burb Groundhoggs and I loved them. Great sound, and when you really get on them, they are loud! I sold them, but am in the process of having a second set made right now. They are going to look just like Vance and Hines Big Radius pipes, but Burb style. I'm getting them in Black Satin Ceramic. They are going to look wicked and be loud as hell. They are pipes with back pressure cones, no baffles. Love the Burbs, well worth the money. IF you get chrome, by chrome guard and put it inside the pies before you use them. It will protect the chrome from turning colors on you. I did it on my first set and had no discoloration at all. Of course you should rejet also and make sure you are not running to lean either.
Burbs rock!!

I'm not sure. It might be just the Holidays. He was supposed to have mine built and mocked up over a week ago, but haven't gotten pictures yet. He cashed my check, but nothing new yet. I have some time, but would like to have them done!

Thanks, just waiting for the end of the month here to see what Christmas has left me in the account. I've got something in mind for a set of pipes from him. I'll wait and then get it priced if I think I can afford to proceed.
Braided cables for sure, and pipes if I can swing it. That'll be it for this winter.

Chrome is a bit more expensive but the you need to use chrome guard on the inside to try to prevent the chrome from turning colors. i did it with my first set and it worked great, but it is a time consuming project. There is always a chance they can turn colors on you and that would just piss me off after paying close to $500 for custom pipes. SOOOO, I'm going with black satin ceramic. A bit cheaper and not nearly as likely to turn color on you. Plus my bike is now black with red flames, so the black pipes will look nice.

I was going to do the black ceramic on mine until I found out how easy they are to scratch . I like the chunky organic feel to the header wrap .

Not sure how I'll do it right now. There's another guy on the forum from Victoria (Shortlegs) and he has a contact for a brokerage company. The brokerage is what usually kills you when you use UPS/Fed Ex and ship across a border. They should be duty free as they are motorcycle parts made in the US.
If the brokerage thing doesn't work out.........I guess ground shipping via USPS or something. I won't do the air thing, my rims were a fortune. Lesson learned, but didn't have an option on that.

I'm having a secong clear ceramic coat put on over the black to protect them better and give them a black glass kind of look.
