The first thing I should say is these are not the first forwards I own for my bike. The other set is of unknown make since they came with the bike. That first set broke because the shift linkage extension was weak. When I first opened the package I was impressed by the beefiness of the product. By far superior to my other set. Installation was pretty quick and easy. The only snag was I recieved two bolts that were the wrong size, I opted to go to lowes for a couple of pennies instead of waiting for fed-ex. Once the install was complete I tested the shifter and the brakes. The shifting was solid, my other set are spongy at best. The brake pedal was not coming all of the way back out. I e-mailed joe and got a quick response. He instructed me to check for binding at pivot points and pry them open if needed. Problem solved. Some people have noticed that the brake is hard to reach and I think it is a little, however no more so than my other set was. I have been riding stock with no forwards for a while and that took some getting used to. I will update more once I ride a little more with them on. All in all I feel they are a great product and the customer service was excellent.

I'm with you, the customer service was awesome and the shifter side works great, but the brake is unusable for me. I can reach it, but its too horizontal which puts you in an awkward position and causes my calf to cramp instantly.

do you have the bracket mounted correct? not sure if you could mount it wrong really and still have everything hooked up.

Yeah, i have everything correct. Brake is just too flat.

Yeah, i'm hoping for that. those Jardines are just too rich for me.

I hear you on the price of those other ones. a little too spendy for me too.

wow, Jay, that's good to know about the crappy quality of the Jardines, in case I was ever at risk of spending the big bucks on 'em. You may have saved my wallet some heartache.

I'm surprised to hear that too, man those things are like half the price of what i paid for my whole bike. What a rip off. I always thought those things were like the Cadillac of forwards. By the way, i think a 96 1100 Ace has a totally different setup from the 750 ACE's.

Wow, that is way too horizontal. I struggled with that when I was making my forwards and that led me to have custom linkages fabricated.
I was tinkering around with a set of forwards for the 2003 VLX 600 and realized they look exactly the same as the Ace forwards. If they are the same, I can start designing them this week. Does anyone know if they are the same?

not sure if they are the same but let me know if some measurements will help you out.

Hey will you be making these forwards for the ACE? I love the look of your controls man and the fact you can mount HD Pegs..

I will make them as soon as I can get my hands on an Ace.

Jibba, i would be careful what you buy as far as forwards. You say that you have 6" ACE forwards from Scootmods, but Scootmods only make 8", so either you have your sizes mixed up or you don't have an ACE setup. I also know you told me that you got used to the brake side setup, but if you had 8" forwards from Scootmods, there is no getting used to the brake. I'm 6' and it's simply impossible to be able to use your brake regularly, It's just too flat. It's not to far at all, just to horizontal. I know you had problems with what model setup you actually have, so you may want to be sure before you order.

Hey Dcfam,
Yes I had issues with my bike in terms of whether it was a Spirit or an ACE. But after all the discussions on here and with Scootmods it was definately an ACE with some serious mods in the rear end before my time.
My bike isn't here at the moment (mates workshop having 21" swap done) once I get it back I will take some close ups of the forwards, especially around the brake side. I did get used to it, but then maybe my inseem is a little more than yours?? Not sure.
And they are 8", but really only move the controls 6" or so, as per what I was told by Scootmods.

was just looking at my forwards and it seems with some mods it would pivot the brake pedal enough. you would need to unbolt the front bolt pivot the brake up. make an adapter to bolt it to it's new location. you would have to shorten the brake rod also. if you have the cutter and welder and some extra metal it would be easy.

You're probably right, but i lack the welder and cutting down that brake rod looks kind of difficult to me. I think if i was going to go through all that, i would probably try to make my own extension with a wider stance to clear the airbox better and make a nicer looking forward design also that is somewhere in the 5 to 6 " range. Ya know. It's funny though, i've been riding my bike around with the left (shift side forward on and the stock controls on the right. It's actually not that bad. If the stocker was a bit lower i probably wouldn't change it.

dcfam, if a shorter rod will fix the problem just let me know how much shorter and I'll have it on the way.

Thanks for the offer, but i really haven't had that side on in a while and i'm not sure if that would change things or not. That thread was from last spring and i just can't remember the details to the setup. I'll probably have things apart again sometime in Feburary and i'll take another look to see if that would make a difference. Maybe some of these Ace's vary slightly from year to year and cause the setup to differ. In any case, I thank you for the concern (and offer) and I'll contact you later this winter if i think that will make the brake side setup work better. It seems like everyone here is pretty happy with your products and your followups to help them with their installs and thats always good to see. Thanks
