View Full Version : And yet another jetting question

Don't worry, I already checked the search button. Nothing there.

My question is how do I know if the bike has already been jetted. I think it may have been done but not quite sure. When I bought the bike it already had the cobra slash cuts on it and the air mixture screws have the caps taken off. I have the stage 3 jets and want to install them after doing the bean box mod.

Will I be able to tell by the fuel needle? My guess is that a stock fuel needle would not have the extra grooves for the e-clip. Obviously if the stock fuel needles are there the bike has not been jetted. Am I on the right track here?

What size jets are you bumping up to? What is your version of a BB mod? I'm running 124, 128 on my ACE and chopped the snorkel on the back of the airbox to allow more air. Also, moved the clip to the third notch on the needles.

Well I opened up the carbs to find out the bike has never been jetted. I bought the bike with the cobra slashcut already on so I figured it had already been done but I guess not. After chopping the snorkel the bike started to runs like shit. Mind you I still have the factory air filter. I ordered the cobra stage 1 jet kit and also have 134 and 138 jets. Do you think the stage 1 will work ok?

3rd notch from the bottom or top of the needle?

Sence you have the cobra pipes and are going to run the stock airbox with the BB mod then id do the #124 and #128 main jets , the clip third grove from the top, and put the mixture screws 2 1/2 out, and leave a 40 slow jet The stage three is more for a full open air cleaner kit like mine ,
But other that that the parts for the stage one will work for the needles , but just follow the info that comes with the kit to install the kit but change the jets and settings ,

Thanks for the info man. I will set it up that way.

Twisted is dead on, but one thing more...lose the stock air filter and go with K&N., same jetting as Twisted suggested except with the K&N your A/F will be closer to 3-3 1/2.

So I just ordered a K&N air filter for the bike. Do you think I should use 134 and 138 jets with the new needles at the 3rd notch and the stock slows?

you could start with needle on the 3rd, I'd order: 124,126,128,130,132,134,136,138. start rich, say 138-134....always better to start rich rather than lean, depending on what else you do to your carbs (like drilling the slide chamber) you may end up with the 138-134 combo, but then again not drilling the vacuum slide chamber you may end up with 124-128., more than likely if you just do the BB mod, pipes and a K&N then you'll be in the range that Twisted and I said already. It's a craps shoot, thats why you order that wide range of jets, you just don't know how your bikes going to act once your rip it's heart out and do your thing to try to unleash the beast, but when you put it all back together, it'll let you know if it's satisfied with what you've done, if not she'll let you know real fast, but you'll be ready with just the right jets.

Thanks for all the help here guys. I just ordered the 124, 128, 134, and 138 jets. The 124 128 and the 134 138 comobs seem to be the most popular. Based on the fact that the bike ran good with the stock jets and needles with the pipes on, I think I am going to start with the 124 128 combo k&n filter and the e clip on the 3rd notch. I cant wait to get all this stuff in the mail. I think my wife's gonna freak, but fuck it. Its worth the argument. She'll shut up after I take her for a ride.

So I finished the re-jet last night. I set the needles at the 3rd notch, k&n filter with the bean box mod and the 124 128 jets. I took the bike for a ride and it seems to cut out a bit a WOT. I have the mixture screws at 3 1/2 turns. Any suggestions?

Yes. Put in new plugs and do a plug chop in 4th gear at 60MPH. That will tell you what your main jets are doing as far as rich or lean....pull one plug from the front, read it, pull one plug from the rear and read it. then you'll know what you need to do to get your mains right, if anything at all, whatever the plugs tell you to do, do it. once you have your mains perfect then do a plug chop in your needle circuit, again do what the plugs tell you, then tweak the A/F.
