The program that I use for my pen catalog (Microtrash Picture It Publishing) doesn't seem to want to work anymore. I even tried to reintsall it with no luck.
Problem is it saves the files with a .php extension. I can't open these files with any other program. I have Paint Shop Pro and I can't even open them with that. Is there a way to convert the files to another format? Keep in mind that I can't open them to use "save as".
This is gonna really piss me off if I lost countless hours of work making this thing to yet another worthless Microsoft product.

Email me one and I'll see if I can find something to open it with. Or I could see if my MS picture it express version will open it and allow me to change it to a more usable format. If you want, send me a test picture and I'll see what I can do for you

Well I don't have an answer Airport but I can tell you it's not a picture format it's for Web publishing from what I could find on the fly it's a sort of sub programing system that intergrates with HTML etc. Did you do an unistall and re-boot berfore you re-installed sometimes that helps

I did a little research on a graphic file format with the PHP exetension. You're on the money only Microslop would come up with a file extension that is used for a very popular server side web scripting language.
I found a few possible canidates that can convert the file, but from what I was reading on Picture it the conversion can be done in the program. It supports the following formats:
.psd
.dxf
.cdr
.emf
.eps
.fpx
.gif
.php
.jpg
.pcd
.pct
.drw
.pcx
.png
.mix
.tif
.tga
.bmp
.wmf
You might want to look at the Options menu to see if there is a default file format you can select. My guess is MS as the default set to 'their wonderful format' by default but you likely can change it there or somewhere else in the program. If you don't see it there look for an export option some where. I use FireWorks from MacroMedia and have never saw anything MS offered that was remotely, so I don't know where to tell you to go in the program to find what you want but am pretty sure it is there somewhere.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Since uninstalling does not work, it probably means you have files in the regisrty that are not being cleared out. In that case try this:
Go to G-Lock Software Web Site and download a free trial of AATOOLS - Advance Administrator Tools.
Delete the program if it is still installed.
Reboot
Open AATOOLS and Run the registry cleaner. Also check the "Start UP" and "Uninstall" Tabs for any traces of that program. What this does is sweep your registry for broken commands etc and cleans them out. It is safe to use, and may even speed up your computer. A backup is generated as a fail safe in case it dumps something you needed, but I have used this tool on numerous computers and never had a problem.
Hopefully it will clean up that glitched registry command that is screwing you up.
Upon completion re-install the program and hopefully it will work again.

That's pretty much the info I found too. I figured maybe I could open it with Frontpage....but that didn't work either.

I also read that you can try opening the pic up and saving it under a different file extension. This was the site that was mentioned in the article I saw. It said they have a great help section too.
Again good luck.

the damn php extension is for saving 'projects' within Picture it. When you are in the project section you don't have any option but to save it as php. My version must be too old to read it, just shows a blank page for his file.
Need to get to open it and copy and paste it into a word document. Word will allow graphics, jpegs, etc and text together.
Maybe someone on here has a new version of Microsoft's Picture it! software????

I don't have the latest Picture-it BUT I do have Visual Studio 2005. It might be able to render it. Happy to try if you want me to.

Ken...
Can you see if .php is one of the extensions that is an available format?

Well I pulled up VS and put a test file on my web server with a PHP extension on it. When I attempted to point to the php file as a source file the interface wouldn't acknowledge it....
...soooooooo
That tells me that Microsofts premere web development tool does not recognize php as a valid image type. Therefore your answer is going to be inside of Picture It. I'm a web dev and have a subscription to MSDN so when I get to work on Monday I'll have look to see if MS includes Picture It in our software catalog. Don't hold your breath because what they provide developers is likely not going to include the Picture It software.
But if it happens to I'd be glad to load it up and take a look where you might change the settings to get the files into a format you can work with on the web.

Not a guru, but I've opened .php files with Dreamweaver mx. If you send them to me I could only snag the pics and shoot'em back to ya. Un/Re installing is the end all...if that dosen't work (and the program worked beforehand) try installing an older version. Also verify the files aren't corrupt by trying another file not associated with this set.
Only other suggestion I can offer is that Experts-Exchange has top notch group.

The reason you can open them in DreamWeaver is because it is a web composition program. PHP is a server scripting language and the file extensions are PHP. In this case these are image files MS thought they would dub with the PHP extension as well. DW will not open these files.

I got the program reinstalled. And can open the files, but when I chose "save as" the only option is the .php file extension. I think I'm just gonna redo the whole damn thing using Word.

Just got home from work. I can't get into the forums from there due to the filters. But this is a known issue with MS Picture It! Here is the link to the solution...

That works even though I have an older version. It's a pain in the ass, but it'll do. Funny thing is, I searched microsoft and came up empty.
Thanks, I really appreciate it.
Now on to the next thing........How hard is it to get a website going?? What do I do first?

Once again...no guru, but your ISP should offer a small webspace (usually 10-50Mbs). You can use that space to learn about ftp and other methods of uploading your pages. As far as which program you use to create pages....I can only relate to you the steps I used. I went from Cool Page to Dreamweaver. Cool Page uses a set template where DW lets you customize the template, but offers much more in layout and options. Menace and Co. have more knowledge about website design than I....so.....WTF am I doing replying to your post? lol
BTW....is it a pron site? If so you'll get much help I'm sure. 8)

Actually Susan had suggested that a few weeks ago. It would have to be a paid site, gotta make something right?
But it's for the pens I make. I really don't sell too many on EBAY and the shops around here want 50% of the selling price. Tha'll make my profit on each one about $2 and theirs $20.
So I figured if I could get a site up with the photos I have I might be able to make some money off of this idiotic place called the internet.
The only software I have is Microfuckers Frontpage. I don't know anything about it. I picked up Frontpage for dummies and even that seems beyond me.

Well web development is what I do for a living. I'm not sure what your wanting to accomplish but if it ecommerce it is not an easy thing to do right. And doing it sloppy is the worst think you can do for your customers and yourself both.
Honestly if you want to sell stuff online there isn't a better deal that ebay. For a few items you can post items for a set price. If you have many items then you can setup a ebay storefront.
ecommerce is expensive and you really want to know what your doing to set it up. You need to have a decient turn over to have enough margin to turn a profit.
The alternative to these is putting the stuff on a web site to display and performing the transactions via snail mail or using paypal. The problem with this way of doing business is that there is a real trust issue involved that may kill many sales.
Happy to lend any advice I can if you would like.

Just an thought for short term. Any Christmas Bazaars going on in your area that you could sell them at. Alot of craft shows or bazaars will charge a small fee for a table and the rest is yours. The pens would make good stocking stuffer or last minute gifts if you could get into something like that. Just my 2 cents.
Good luck.

If you want a no cost website you can use PayPal's shopping cart thingy and you would be able to take paypal and all major credit cards without having to screw with a monthly merchant account fee.
For web development I use Dreamweaver. Frontpage is nice also.

I just wanted to do a site similar to this one
http://yourdonspens.com/
Just a way to show some in stock items, take some custom orders and use paypal for the payment.
Ebay is nice, but they don't sell very well there. If I have to relist an item a few times to sell it. I'm losing money. The most recent grouping I had on there I sold 1 out of 4. They have been listed several times so by selling that one I broke even on the listing fees, but lost any profit.

That's the best idea. Keeping it simple and learn as you go. You can always add to it if it takes off. Did you get my PM?
