Need some insight to whats good and whats not. I recently bought a '02 Shadow Spirit 1100c. The bikes got 8k miles and it's cherry, but the tires gotta go. I know the choices are limited, but some info would be greatly appreciated.

I've been running the Metzeler ME880 tires and love them. Great ride, and wear. I got 18K out of the rear. I probably could have gone more but I didn't want to push it since I ride during the winter. Front is still going strong. I'm running the stock size on the front and a 200 in the back. I put the ME880's on my wife's VT700 as well.

Thanks, I didn't know the Metzlers would fit.

Let me do that again. I knew they would fit, I was told the Metzelers weren't good for the Shadow 1100. I don't remember why, but I was told I had to go with the original tires it came with, Dunlaps I think. That's why I'm asking. Didn't sound right then, sounds even dumber now.

I'll second the ME880's. That's all I buy now for my '04 Sprit 1100.

I bought my '07 with Dunlop D404s on it and replaced them with the same tire. That was in October. They have less than 1,000 miles on them and the sidewalls look like theyre 5 yrs old--cracked to shit. Out of the weather during the winter, deflated a bit but not that much... If I cant get them to replace them 6 months later then that was an expensive f'n mistake:furious2:

Speakin of those shitty Dunlops... I took the bike back to the shop today. They talked to Dunlop and said they will cover it under limited warranty and only charge me for labor to put it on -- about $60. Should I be payin for labor to install a tire that went bad under factory warranty?????? I think at least a discount is in order. Any one else ever run into something like this?:reddisgus :reddisgus :reddisgus :dunno:

tell them to give you the tires and then take them some where that wont rape you on labor cuz thats a lot i usually see mounting and balancing for about 25-30

I have a Metzler on the rear of mine, 880 200/70 B15. I saw in this post that someoen got 18k on his rear tire. I can't geet over 9k but I am know to smoke the tire once in awhile. I keep the stock tire on the front and run an average of 20k to 22k on it. The rear the Dunlops just don't hold the miles. They do grip a little better but it is made up with the wider print of the 200. What kind of pipes do you have on your Spirit? I have done alot of work on my engine including pistons, cams, turned the carbs into 38mm's, made my own pipes, advanced the timing, different air intake top on the air box. Been down to spiltting the egine too just to check how the cranck and bearings are holding up with 80+ ft lbs of torque and about 75 hp dyno'd at the rear wheel. I have a set of piston that are 10 to 1 compression left, pipes, and can get the cams if your interested.

I tried to post pic's but I must be doing something wrong. I put Pirelli's on front and rear. Only got 100 miles on them. Don't have an opinion yet, too soon. I'm looking to add some saddlebags. It came with a Willie and Max fork bag and sissybar bag, so Willie and Max saddles it is. I like the 16 inch but don't know if they will fit. The compact slant 12's will, but I like the 16's better. I measured the space but not sure I did it right. Any help would be appreciated. I'll see what I can do with the pic's.

All those mods and no pics, I say bullshit. Pics, video, and a dyno sheet, Ill believe you. Sounds good, but I know you would have to machine it all yourself. Id love to see some evidence. No pics. No bike. No custom parts.

I miss the stock Dunlop rear.
Nothing was more fun in the rain or for doing burnouts right off idle. Traction is soo overrated.
The Metz just grip, what fun is that ?
