Our department has been doing trainings at a house that was scheduled to be demolished the last 4 Sundays. Yesterday was live fire training. Previous weeks were rescuing victims and such using smoke machines.

Yesterdays training was over about noon (I missed it due to illness - damn!). They did several drills running it as if it were a real call. Trucks were staged around the corner, it was dispatched as a structure fire and proceeded from there.

The kicker is that at about 5:00 yesterday afternoon neighbors called and reported that the house was fully engulfed in flames!

Chief says it was most likely started intentionally as the crews had done a complete overhaul at noon when training ended.

Here's the story http://www.wpri.com/Global/story.asp?S=4170705&nav=F2DO

There's a link to the news video at the beginning of the story. Some nice pics of E-2 (my truck).

The fires they were lighting were inside the house. They're kind of strict up here about burning them completely to the ground. We used to be able to do that, then it's less for the homeowner to have hauled away.

I've been to some good trainings over the years. We burned a huge chicken coop to the ground. We had to make sure it didn't get to the house/office which was attached (we did it).

Another year we spent a month practicing on a two story house. The week after we burned it to the ground, we had a call come in for a structure fire. Thanks to all the hands on training, we contained it to one room and the porch. I still catch shit over that one though. We were searching the house after knocking down the main fire, I walked around the corner with my partner and practically shit myself. There was a shadow of somebody standing there in the smoke! Turned out to be a cardboard cutout of a WWF wrestler! :stunned: :embarasse :rolleyes5
