he probably needed the cash. probbably lost a shit ton of money when the stocks dropped. An ins claim on a $2,000,000 car would be a healthy chunk of change.

Being I work for the Material Damage (Auto) department of an insurance company that has a specialty line of insurance specifically for high end customs, exotics, rods and others. The first question that came through our office...."It's not out insured is it?"
Still don't know the answer to that yet, I'm sure I would have heard by now if it was.

Seriously though, I can't imagine it's totalled. All new wiring, some new upolstry... should be good to go, unless he hydro'd the motor. But still, you gotta think it could be fixed a whole lot cheaper then paying it out.
Bet that guy won't be chasing a dropped cell phone anytime soon....

This actually happened right around the corner from my in-laws. This genius jumped out of the car when it got into the water and left it running until it died from sucking in saltwater. Oh yea and I know fuck off noob.

When I spent 3 wks in Houston writting Galveston and Houston claims from hurricane Ike, we totaled vehicles if the water line was at or above the floorboards. Of course most of them were a hell of a lot higher then that after that storm.
The reason the insurance company totals them at that is because, the salvage retention remains high so they total at a lower amount then the usual 70-80%.
We totaled an Astin Martin DB9 that was valued at near $180,000. When I inspected it, no joke....it looked perfect. I got there after the cleaning crew the salvage yard hired had done their work on it. The only real remaining proof was the corrosion on the battery under the rear seat.

yeah...i'd totally believe the "insurance fraud" angle on this story...
that seemed wayy too controlled of a "crash" to be an accident...not sure i even saw brake lights (though it's kinda hard to tell)...
interestingly enough I found this about the guy on a Houston Motorcycle forum...he owns the company at the following link...an "exotic salvage" kinda dealership...

How long until the police uncover that the people filming in some way are affiliated with the person who crashed. maybe they were paid to be there filming so there was video witness.

No big deal. That car will be on the road in no time.
The only one to lose out will be the insurance unless they can prove fishy business.
