What is a good MP3 player to get. There's so many out there, I don't know where to start. Any idears?

Also anybody know of good sites to download MP3's? A girl I work with uses iTunes. My supervisor said he uses emule. Won't touch Kazaa or Limewire, friends have had too many problems with them.

Thanx! :fireman:

I have a RIO with a 1.5 GB hard drive. Works very well. Holds more music than I need and never had a problem with it not playing cause of the bumps. The flash memory mp3's are more durable but I got more storage at less cost with this one. ipod seems to be the leader of the pack tho.

Mines an IRiver 20GB. Works great and I got a mount for my bars at motorcyclegadgets.com. The buttons are big enough to operate with gloves on too.

As far as music goes. I use BearShare. The free version works great for me.

Thanx Clint. That's right, I remember seeing it mounted in one of your pics way back when.

LOL, Well I just bought the iPod Nano. It has 4 gig of flash memory. (approx 1,000 songs)
I filled it up the very first day. I have my entire CD collection uploaded into my computer. ITunes picks up all of those as well as the ones you get from their website. So I was able to put 850 songs in the first night!
I find that to be a great combo, iPod and iTunes.

We have an MPIO player that has flash memory. It works great, no problems with skipping, etc. Flash is easy like switching out CD's.

Our is a small square so it was easy to find a mount for it. Some of the new ones that are shaped for your hand are going to be difficult to find a holder of some sort.

I've used napster, itunes, even wal-mart to download music with no problems.

My wife is on my ass about me getting an mp3 player so I can listen to music and ride. She says I'm gonna kill myself or some one else because I wont be able to hear. Please all of you who have these and listen to music and ride please tell her how you all listen to it . Be it the small earphones or external speakers. Please help me convince her that for the really long rides this is an awsome thing to have.

When I ride with a group or with my wife I don't wear mine. I have ear buds and I can still hear a horn of a car as well as any emergency vehicles. Mine is usually cranked too, as it's hard to hear the tunes with the wind noise even with ear buds. City riding, the volume can be turned right down so hearing things shouldn't be an issue.

I've never had any problems hearing my surroundings with my earbuds in. I can also wire mine through my helmet to helmet radios. That way my passenger can listen and we can talk to each other too

I trust my kit....I've tried "ear buds" and helmet speakers. The end result was to fabricate my own design and now I ride with tunes and when I choose to.....I cancel out ALL ambient sound and fugg with the Chevy next door pumping sniff-doggie-doo....with Bush....Machinehead......Just stay away from the phones.

Thanks.

Like some of the others have posted, we listen to music quite often but mostly on longer trips. Shorter rides to meet up with others, we normally don't bother with it.

We listen through our helmet speakers. With intercom and/or the CB, when you talk, it overrides the music...you can still hear really well while riding with the music on and when in town or exiting a freeway, etc., we just turn it down to a lower level so it's more like background noise.

I think it brings a whole new level of riding enjoyment to passengers. You can still enjoy the scenery and jam out too. :jamming:

I'm with Shadow on this one. I used to prefer RIO, but I think the best out there is IPOD. It has a lot of versatility, you can sector off so many ways etc so that it makes it really easy to locate a tune etc. There are a lot of IPOD models to fit your budget. Go the the top of the line and you can probably store 5000 songs, plus a dozen audio books.

For about $35 you can include an FM transmitter, whcih are great for cars. No tape cassett or headphone - just turn it on and play it through your car FM stereo system.

I dont know too much about music source though. I use mine for books etc.
