i noticed on a ride this last weekend that there was an oil leak coming from my shaft drive. took a pic and labled where the problem was/is. i drained and replaced the oil and i'm hoping it won't start up again. a buddy of mine told me that it was leaking from the overflow so maybe it was just time to change it. wondered if someone on here may know.

Can`t honestly answer that since you got the shaft.lol Chances are it may have been over filled at the stealership or from the p.o. or it has lost it`s velocity and thinned out and due for a change.Just my thoughts.Keep us informed.

I find in the cooler weather my C2 and Aero will occasionally spew out some gear oil from that vent, kept an eye on it and it hasn't happened all summer. Don't think you have a major issue, just keep an eye on it now that you've done an oil change.

thanks guys for the replies. i forgot to ask if anyone know's how much oil the thing holds, i drained it and very little was in it. i filled it till it spilled out the fill hole and it only took about 6oz's of oil. i looked at the manual i downloaded when i bought the bike and i could not find how much it is suppose to hold. i guess i'll jack it back up tommorow after i put a few miles on it and check and try to put more in then.

forgot to say my bike is a 96 ace vt1100

I`m pretty sure it`s like an automotive diff, fill till it starts running out the fill hole.

that's what i was told, just making sure, 6oz's just seemed a lil lite to me. still searching the web to see if i can find a fact sheet on fluid's for the bike. couldnt' find it searching here or on the pdf manual i have for the bike.

When it comes to gear lube,it doesn`t take much for it sticks to every damn thing that moves.lol.

Funny stuff,I`m sure diff. in temp makes a diff.on the level it runs at as well.Hope is all good with it.

trooper-
the dealers are telling people now they may have some res. after a service. the dealers around here only sell the lube in like a 6.5 oz tube so it is going to go somewhere. just a little will look like a lot but just keep an eye on it. b safe

FF- congrats on the home with Miss FF !! nothing like being a home owner
