Good evening to all....
I'm new to the group but have been rideing a 1997 Shadow 600VLX for 3 years now. I am thinking about buying a 1998 - 750 Shadow Ace, American Classic. My Question is this, My wife and I would like to go on a few longer trips. Our Combined weight is around 300 lbs. would this bike be ok for this kind of rideing? I know a bigger bike would be better but I can not find any in my area for the amout of money I want to spend. The 750 is dressed with soft saddle bags, Floor Boards, Highway bars, light bar and a back rest. It has been jetted and a hyper-charger added, along with Vince & Hines pipes. The present owner said that with the Hyper-charger it adds more HP to the bike. 1. does the bike sound like something I could live with as far as adequite horse power. 2 Does the Hyper-charger realy add that much horse power?
Thanks.

300 lbs isn't that much for the bike. It's not like you are continually travelling together on it. I know a couple friends that tour on their ACE and AERO and have no problems doubling up and touring. We have our share of 'hills' here as well.

My friend who owns a stock ace weighs 300lbs and rides passengers [ he likes big girls too ]. We all want more hp no matter what you ride . The hyper charger is equal to all other aftermarket intake mods . If you do alot of hyway riding change out the rear sproket and you will be fine .

The bike is big enough, that's no problem.
Only thing I would advise would be for you and your wife to sit on the bike together and check the seating position - that is what prompted us to get rid of our '97 1100 Shadow. I have long legs and the peg positioning for the passenger (I wasn't riding at that time) was too high. Relocation was not possible with the pipes. I literally rode on my tailbone - it was very uncomfortable; painful on a long haul.
Recently, we both sat on a new Suzuki Boulevard Tourer just for kicks...my knees where in his armpits!
Just do your homework....if you're both not comfortable, it's not going to work.

Think back several years. A 750 was a big bike! I ran into an older lady that was riding across the country on a Rebel 250! You can do it on any bike, you just have to see if it is comfortable enough for you.
Good luck!

A stock 80ci evo motor only put out about 45hp . A 74ci shovel even less . Big bikes [ weight and ci ] low hp . My bike with mods is around 45-50 hp and weighs alot less . It is more reliable too . The last 5 years or so motorcycles have gone crazy . People want to start off with a 800lbs 100+hp bike . The custom harly market artificaly drove up the performance needs on Japanese bikes [VTX anyone ]. It is nice to have that choise . I however do not think I need a 800lbs 100+hp bike . I want ..YES . I do not need it and would prolly kill myself on one . I ride every day and around town alot . I do not do alot of hy-way riding . My bike is perfect for my needs . It is great on the hy-way don't get me wrong . There are just better bikes for that type of riding .

I ride an ACE 750 with Bean box mod, Pipes and rejetted. It would be approx. the same power as the one you are looking at. I ride two up regularly and don't have any issues.
No matter how much power you get you will want more, it's just the nature of the game. But this bike will do great on highways

If you were wanting a little more power, Boss Hoss has a model with a 525 HP V8! Should get you and the little lady down the road fine. You can get as much as you want. Up to you and your wallet. All of us here are very reasonable, law abiding citizens and don't need to overcompensate!:wink_2: Well, except Tiny maybe..... (I think he needs to order the Boss Hoss)

EXCUSE ME!!!!
You and your wife together still lighter than me, and I will even take my wife on the bike as well.
SO no, 300 lbs is ok. Shoot my bike would fly if I only weighed that much.
