Tiny has both. I'm sure he will chime in here soon. He rides the Honda and the fucking Harley sits in the garage and won't start! But it's comfy for the road.

Yea, I have a 96 HD Ultra Classic and an 03 Shadow Spirit. Except for long road trips, I prefer the 750 over the HD.
The 750 is a great bike. It is a lot more fun to ride, lower center of gravity, and without a doubt is built by far more durable than a HD.
The HD however does have a whole lot easier turning radius.(because of the rake and top center of gravity) At the same time that Higher center of gravity is not conducive to a solid high speed ride - 85 to 100 mph. The Shadow will be screaming at those speeds, but the ride itself is more stable.
If you plan on doing a lot of long distance touring, then a larger bike would be better. In that case look at Honda's ST 1300 Sport Touring Bike. It will outperform a HD in everything. But if you plan on using it for around town, along with many short trips - 100 to 300 miles, then the Shadow will be a great choice.
Oh, and YES my HD is sitting in the garage and wont start. Battery is drained and i put a new in about 6 months ago. If I dont start and run my HD at least once a week, the bike will not start. Must be some type of short that is constantly draining my battery. Nothing nother $1200 cant fix.
My Honda battery is still the original and starts up each and every time without a problem.
Stick with the Shadow.

Why don't you put a battery tender on it? By the way, I own a HD Sporty and an 1100 A.C.E.I like them both.
soft tail deuce has great power, low riding. 750 takes it on reliability. Liked them both.

I've ridden my buddy's Heritage classic & it is a whole new world. The riding position feels like your in a barber's chair, but overall, I was really impressed. The power was intense compared to my 750 and it was really fun to ride. It was surprisingly nimble for its size too. I'm not sure that I would buy one because I think they are over-priced. I'd go for a VTX or something....

OH WOW! NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT ! YES I DID..... Just foolin....
No, there is a short somewhere that is draining the battery. Bike has over 74,000 miles.
One of these days I will take it over to one of the guys in my Harley Unit and we will try to locate where it is.... aside from that it does run good, and it is DRY under the bike - NO OIL.
However it is not a great bike for high speed 85+ cruising. Jap bikes are by far better design for that. Still for normal freeway speeds, it is very comfortable on long hauls.

I think you have a loose nut at the end of the handlebars! Have you checked your oil lately? Maybe that's why it's not dripping anymore!
I must say, it is a comfortable bike to ride. Very expensive to maintain tho. I don't see the value of it. Slow traffic (parades) aren't the best thing either......... cough, sputter, pop, wheeze......

Battery tender...... Does that come stock with a new Harley? My Honda sits for a couple of months in the winter and starts right off when I hit the button..... hmmmmm American ingenuity? Hold it. I ride an American Honda! Maybe Harley should get a clue. Take some lessons from the Asians.

Say what you will, both HD and Hondas has thier on place in the world. I ride my 1100 when I want to impress normal people and the HD when I want to chat with the snobs waiting in the lobby for thier bikes to be repaired. Just kidding! I ride two dif bikes for two dif reasons. The HD for enjoyment and group rides and the 1100 for enjoyment and two up riding.
One other thing, I replace batts every two years needed or not. I also use batt tenders on both when not riding. It's depressing to suite up and bike won't start.

Your right. They do have their own place. Anytime you compare a 750 to a 1300 cc engine I sure hope you notice a difference in power.
The problem is - do you get the full value for the price?
For quality, performance etc the answer is NO. For prestige and EGO the answer is YES!
HD's are WAY OVER PRICED. HD Parts are WAY OVER PRICED, and if your foolish enough to take you bike to a HD Dealer for service, you will discover just how WAY OVER PRICED that is as well. Again I am not saying, like PEGS, that HD's are worthless. They are GOOD bikes. But they are not worth the price tag HD thinks they are worth.
We as consummers do not mind WAY OVER PRICED items. We do mind however if the Over Priced item is no better, or in some cases, behind the curve of the competitors.
Lets say you decide it is time to purchase a new vehicle. You go to the nearest dealer and view the sticker prices. Not one car is priced under $100,000.
Ok, would you expect that vehicle to be a LUXURY CAR, or would you expect it to be a Chevy or Volkswagon?
There lies the dilemma with HD.
They charge a price comparable to LUXURY CAR, but in reality your purchasing a Chevy or VW. Again, let me emphasis that there is NOTHING wrong with a Chevy or VW. They both produce good quality vehicles.
However is it worth $100,000?
Those of us who were foolish enough to fall into the EGO Trap tossed out common sense and paid that LUXURY PRICE TAG for a HD. Those that dont have the financial means, or were born with more commons sense than EGO, saw the bike for what it really is, and said NO WAY AM I PAYING THAT MUCH !!
HD makes a good bike, but it is not worth the price they extract for it.

:luxhello: TINY
I'm not saying they are worthless, just not worth what they charge. Hey, HD is selling a lot of bikes. More power to them! They have a niche. If I owned the company, I would charge as much as I could even if the product isn't as good. Also, look at the clothing and accessories they sell. Stock is still going up slowy. That's the American way.....

I still want one . I don't want to pay what they are asking . I figure when this chopper fad cools down and the babieboomers that fuel it are wearing diapers .The custom market will crash and bikes will be sold cheap because they beat up their owners and their owners need money for pills/hospital bills .
I bought my HD from a friend that had just lost his wife, (cancer) and he needed the money. I told him when he got everything back in good shape to call me and I would sell it back for what I gave. He never called and so I still have it. That is the reason I have it. Would I buy a HD new and pay full price? NO!
It has been over two yrs now so guess I will keep it.
