Gear Shift

I have a 1986 Shadow VT1100C with about 22k on it . Riding home the other day I was down shifting and found that the shifter did not pop back up the way it should have, plus I was unable to lift it up with my foot until I pulled the clutch in a couple of times and press on down on the shifter.

The problem was sporiac and cause me to have to start from 3rd gear a couple of time at stop lights. I'm glad Iwas on my way home when it happened.

When I got home and was shifting in the garage each time I down shifted it felt very solid with not spring. The problem seems to be only in the shifting, once in gear it seamed to run normal.

Any ideas.

How old's the clutch?

It's the orginial clutch. The bike has 19,465 miles. What is a average miles for clutch problems?

It depends on your style of riding. I replaced mine last year when I noticed it was starting to slip a little. That was only about 16,000 miles.
