Hello,

I'd like to put some of these on my bike.
I know they aren't legal, but...

Question: Can I ride with them lit?

I'm thinking Blue would be totally cool, but if I rode with them on, more chance of being pulled over. Although I did see a guy the other night with blue on, and h was riding.

Purple isn't bad, it's not blue...

I have a black bike.

Or are these totally ghey?

I don't mind them but yeah, you will get pulled over. The question is, is it worth the ticket?

Can you afford the ticket?

Yes, but it's your bike so do what you like.

I think they're a little gheyish but I've seen lots of cruisers and sport bikes with them on here in OK. So they must not be illege here.

Depends on the laws in the state. Some if you don't have red and they are only seen from the side may be ok. Best thing is to ask the local authorities.

I never even knew there was a law against them. Not sure about here in Ohio. I've seen bikes with them on, but never thought about it.
I do know that they outlawed blue and red neons under cars. Claimed you could be confused with an emergency vehicle. RIGHT!! Since when did you see a fire truck rollin on 26's with red and blue neons underneath?

11; § 46.2-1012. Headlights, auxiliary headlights, tail lights, brake lights, and illumination of license plates on motorcycles.

Every motorcycle shall be equipped with at least one headlight which shall be of a type that has been approved by the Superintendent and shall be capable of projecting sufficient light to the front of such motorcycle to render discernible a person or object at a distance of 200 feet. However, the lights shall not project a glaring or dazzling light to persons approaching such motorcycles. In addition, each motorcycle may be equipped with not more than two auxiliary headlights of a type approved by the Superintendent.

Motorcycles may be equipped with means of modulating the high beam of their headlights between high and low beam at a rate of 200 to 280 flashes per minute. Such headlights shall not be so modulated during periods when headlights would ordinarily be required to be lighted under § 46.2-1030.

Every motorcycle registered in the Commonwealth and operated on the highways of the Commonwealth shall be equipped with at least one brake light of a type approved by the Superintendent. Motorcycles may be equipped with one or more auxiliary brake lights of a type approved by the Superintendent. The Superintendent may by regulation prescribe or limit the size, number, location, and configuration of such auxiliary brake lights.

Every motorcycle shall carry at the rear at least one or more red lights plainly visible in clear weather from a distance of 500 feet to the rear of such vehicle. Such tail lights shall be constructed and so mounted in their relation to the rear license plate as to illuminate the license plate with a white light so that the same may be read from a distance of 50 feet to the rear of such vehicle. Alternatively, a separate white light shall be so mounted as to illuminate the rear license plate from a distance of 50 feet to the rear of such vehicle. Any such tail lights or special white light shall be of a type approved by the Superintendent.

Comment: Our office has in the past received calls from motorcyclists who were pulled over due to the fact that they have a modulating headlight. Modulating headlights are legal in Virginia so long as they comply with this statute.

Your LED is the auxillary lights.

He answered your question with his experince and you had to come back with its different state by state. Of course every state has different laws. I felt by saying this you were rude in disregarding what he was sharing with you.

Wasn't trying to be rude...

I guess the word, "cool" doesn't mean anything.

OK.

Was that enough information for you to put them on your bike? If you are really concerned about the LEDs and the police. I would suggest talking to the guys that do the inspections for your windshield stickers. I am sure they have access to all the laws if anything tell you were you might get it.

Yeah, thanks KenJan, good advice, I'll cruise over to the inspection place. The guy that works there is pretty cool, and I'll talk to some cops that hang by the 7-11 down the street.

Thanks people.

If you are going to ask a cop, make sure you ask them if "reflective" or "indirect" lighting is legal. They might think you are talking about direct light which is usually illegal.

Oh and fuck you guys who think LEDs are gay :D You know how i know you're gay, you dont like LEDs.
