lifter tick

ok so im a noob. so go ahead and tell me to fuck off or go pound sand or what ever you do here. Im sure you are all sick of exhaust mod questions, so i have a new one for you. I have only been riding for five years only so i dont know alot about motorcycle engines, im a auto mechanic so im not clueless. I have a 2001 handa sabre 1100 with 19 k miles on it. When i start it up cold at idle it sounds like a lifter tick from the front cylinder. slightly off idle or if it runs for three or four minutes the tick is gone. The owners manual said the lifters are hydraulic and im running 10w40. Does anyone else have this problem? should i be worried about it? Are lifter a pain in the ass to change? or should i put thicker oil in it? Any help would be great.

Since you are an auto mechanic you know that thicker oil would mask the tick not fix it. 19 k miles that is not many, might be due for valve adj.
Has the bike been setting for a while?

the bike is driven daily. I know thicker oil will only mask it. and it has hydraulic lifters so valves do not need adjustment. i now its not going to get any better, are lifters hard to replace in these motors

The thicker oil is a no go- you'll end up with oil in the air filter housings and all kinds of gooey shit. That lifter noise...well, as a mechanic, you have the basic know how, why dontcha grab a sixpackasuds and go talk to the local Honda mokanic, see what he can tell ya. Or, there is a CLymers manuel I am sure, or a link to one like that , I dunno where.:drink:
