I would like to see some of those lunkers posted again!
I will start with my Sturgeon. It was caught in the Columbia river just before it goes out into the Pacific Ocean. It was approx 56". Getting the bug! Time to hit the water again!

Hey Col.....glad to see you made it back. Where the hell ya been?
I had a little fishing trip planned last summer with my dad and kids to Chadwick Lake here in Newburgh. Never got around to it, now dad is gone. :(
Hopefully I can manage to get off my ass this summer and get the kids out. The last time I went was about 3-4 years ago with my dad and son. So at least he has that memory of the day "fishing with pop pop"
Ok that's it, sorry to bring down the thread.

Hey Shadow , I just got my new baitcasting rig today . I got a low profile 6 bearing Phluegler Trion with a 6'6" mh one piece Diawa high grade . It is almost time to go to Eastern Or for smallmouth .I have been doing Sauvies for sturgen and catfish . I have not been into trout much this year . But I might hit Salish with my fly rod for bluegill the next couple weeks . They are great battered and deepfried .

NICE!!
Hey speaking of flyfishing...
Do you know enough to teach someone?
I bought a fly rod about 4 years ago when my brother in law was going to teach me. Well he divorced my wifes sister and has not bee seen around since.
Now I have a fly outfit that has never seen the water.
I am going to go to Sauvie Island and fish Oak Lake this coming Saturday, weather permitting.
If not, I may try Salish again. I pulled a couple good size trout of there this year already. Maybe time to try for some blue gill or a small mouth.
My fishing buddy told me that they are getting ready to require tags for freshwater game fish!!
How bad does that suck. Would include the catfish, bass etc. Anything to take another buck from Joe Taxpayer!
Mr.Sinister
05-02-2005, 03:44 PM
I have been flyfishing for a couple years . I taught myself at Salish on bluegill . I can teach you how to do that . Early summer and summer are the best times to do it due to the spawn . Once you get the hookset down you can pull one in every cast . I have pulled in more than 85 in an hour on my best day . I have been practicing for trout and bass but I have yet to be successfull . Oak lake ? I have not seen a good map of Sauvies so I don't know where that is . Is that for bass ?
Shadow
05-02-2005, 04:06 PM
Well last year I pulled out about 30 carp that I more than happy gave to the Asian lady standing there wiht her arms outstreched for them.
I have pulled in a lot of Bullheads and 1 NICE channel cat. HUGE! (not like Maki's but close). I have seen my friend catch a bass or two and the guy that usually fishes on the end, fishes for Sturgeon.
It is over by Holdemon pond and sturgeon lake. Instead of going right, you go left on top of the bar. Great spot right there for Bass too.

Give me a call at home to make plans before my wife gives me somthing to do . I still don't know where that is . I always go to Webber pond or Big Eddy . I do not have a boat . I will take a look at Salish for bluegill this week . Let me know if you want to go . Water temp is the key along with moon phase . The bluegill hold in shallow water or close to the surface . They get crazy hungery before the spawn . I use a small black ant or a black gnat and a 4x tippet . I cast and let it sink a little . As I strip line they usually hit and setting the hook is easy . I use some small shimano forcepts to get the fly out . Many times they take it deep . Carp are fun . I would not eat one but I would fish for one . I would not eat a big cat either . To many toxins over a long time . Smaller cats taste better and are better for you .

Trout season is open in Western WA, so I intend to fish a bit this saturday and see how it goes. I got into flies last year for steelhead and salmon, but don't have anything except spinning gear for trout.
Mr.Sinister
05-03-2005, 01:50 AM
I usually use spin gear for trout . I don't like to keep them unless I plan on eating them the same day . They get mushy if you put them in the freezer .Trout don't fight as hard as other game fish . I have kind of lost intrest in them . Salmon are fun but it is not always that productive . You can go out days in a row and not catch anything . Because I have little free time to go I try to plan for the most productive day .

Sinister,
Had a great time at the fishing hole yesterday! It was a pleasure to meet you.
Even though we didn't catch any fish, this time, it was still a good trip.
I am glad that I finally got to meet you in person. But you know what, your going to have to earn back your title of 'resident asshole'.
Summer is coming, we are going to have to hit the island a time or two this year.

I know of a place that won't require the crazy hike . It is not as good and it still has rattlesnakes . But all of eastern Or has rattlesnakes . They have em on Hood [ croatalis viridus oreganus]. I caught one a few years back . I almost stepped on it . I used a stick and put it in my tackle box for safe keeping . It's name is Little Sinister and a friend who collects " hot herps " still has it as a pet . The ponds on the right side of the freeway heading towards Biggs don't require anything crazy . Lots of carp too , but nobody to give them to . I will just have to bring over some bluegill and show you how to cook them .

Like somthing that ate 600 pounds of thai mud for a hundred years . Big cats don't taste good . They are usually loaded with pcb's and pesticide and bad for you to eat . 8 lbs or less taste better and are better for our health .

Sinister,
Bass fishing looks good for Saturday morning depending on what time you want to hang it up.
I have to be back at the house by noon for other commitments.
Let me know if that will work for you.
OH, did you see the 7 day forcast?!
looks like mid 90's up until Saturday where it turns mid 70's and partly cloudy!!
With a change like that, the fish ought to be nuts!
Mr.Sinister
07-27-2005, 11:56 AM
The key to this spot is start early . The bite dies off at 0830 hours . I will have worked all night anyway . I usualy leave by 0900 hours . I have been getting nailed with topwater lures [ poppers ] from 0530 to 0730 and then I switch to soft plastics [ yamasenkos ] or real worms off the bottom . I will have everything you may need i.e. lures and bait . If you want I can bring you a hi end bass pole to fish with . I almost allways bring 2 . Where would you like to meet ? And at what time ?
Shadow
07-27-2005, 12:12 PM
I think you said once before you were ready to go by 5:00am. When you moved, what side of town did you move to? I don't know what is on the way for you, but I can meet you at 5:00am at my work. It is on the way to the fishing hole. It is on 224 and Johnson road by the new Lowes they just built. (behind K-mart off I-205).
It is a secured parking lot and we can leave a car there without worry.
I have a rod, not a bass rod, I will bring it and if for some reason it won't work as well as yours, then I will switch over.
I will leave the bait and lures to you then.
Sounds like a plan!

LaMont about 3.5 years ago for about a week . I have had 2 back injurys and the repeted lifting of 70lbs parts out of a tub was bad . It is all lower and middle back . Not to mention it rained the whole week . Next to the kiln that runs from 1500 to 2000 deg on a 100% humidity day , it was like opening the door to hell .The heat was unbelieveable ! I liked the guys but the job sucked . I imagin hell to be that with sharp rocks . I figured it out from what you said . Most of my parts where turbines . I will meet you there around 0515 . 07-29-2005, 11:01 AM
Your Grandpa is fucking strong !!!! :wink_2: What in blue hell is a spoonbill ? I kinda looks like a catfish .
If you look closely, you can see it is tied to the rafter above. A spoonbill is one of those ancient fish like a Sturgeon that spawn in the shallows of rivers and feed on plankton. It's also known as a Paddlefish. The only way to catch them is by snagging them with Big ass treble hooks weighted down to the bottom by a 1/2 lb bell sinker. We use ocean rigs with 80-100 lb test line. All you do is cast out, let the line go to the bottom then commence pulling up and down while trolling at slow speeds.
Check this out. http://www.earthwave.org/paddlefish.htm

What a cute kid! Must take after his Mom.. BAhaHAHAHa!!!
Thanks for the fishing trip Saturday! I had a great time. But I have one request, next time we go, not only can you bring the Dr.Juice Bass attractant, can you bring some Dr. Buzz Duck repellant?!!
Mr.Sinister
08-01-2005, 11:02 AM
That one does look like his mom . I think ducks put up one hell of a fight and refuse to bring repelent . It is nice to know that if the fishin is slow , I can always catch dinner . I fished that other side and caught 7 in the first hour . I did not catch anything after that . Mark showed up with a friend and they caught 6 between them . BTW I had a good time also , we should do that again soon .
