View Full Version : Calling all Mods and Senior members...

I have been here for a mere 6mos. and in that short period of time I have noticed a serious progression in the totally fucked up, and disrespectfull way of the n00b..
We all give eachother shit, and we all have a bad day here and there. But some of these guys get on here, post a pic of their bike and ask a dumb question that has been asked 100+ times (hell, we do it too) and then get all bent out of shape when we tell them to use the search button and give them the old FUCKOFFNOOBSCUM.. I'm tired of having to tell these fucks that Beaker and Sinister don't fuck around. And that just because they have been here for a year, yet only have 10 posts, does NOT make them a valued member of the nut house.. I just saw a guy with 47 posts that joined this month, maybe he has more time on his hands than others or maybe he has input on shit that matters, either way he is getting himself out there and gathering info. NOT WHINING, MOANING, BITCHING, AND COMPLAINING..
We all work hard for our money and our time is valuable. I propose a n00b intro page, MANDITORY for all new members, one that shows the features of the site like where to set up your personal info and where the SEARCH button is located. Maybe warn them of our way of welcoming them to the site. A 90 day probationary period where if they show their ass they will be warned and if it continues to happen they will be exiled to a shitty Shadow site with no info on it.
I don't know, I'm just tired of these children (for lack of better words) coming on here and attacking the senior members for giving advise, even if it stings some times...

no one should be exiled, this is a public forum. some of the siht head noobs turn out to be good people, they just don't understand how it works here yet...remember, even the founder of this forum was a noob when it all started.

I don't know... I think the problem is that some of these guys find the site and join right away. I lurked for a long time and read, and read and read...When I signed up, I knew the basics: be prepared for a bashing, post some pics right away, have a sense of ha ha, and try to contribute whenever possible. That's just my experience.

You hit the nail on the head.

For what it's worth.
Sometimes not responding to a noob thread is better than getting on there and aimlessly bashing. A witty "fuck off noob" thing is always good and brings out the sense of humor in a noob. A non response forces the slower ones to wonder over to the search function or sit there all by them selves.
I'm still a noob here and to the whole Shadow world but have noticed that some have taken to bashing noobs more than sharing any useful info. Might just scare away a real worthy board member.
Now back to your regular programing.

I realise I'm not a senior member, but I'll weigh in; It seems that you can never tell how someone will react; yesterday I tried the super polite approach to a Noob question, from a guy's first post (no intro, no photos, just a question) so I told him very politely to do those things first and he would find the place very helpful; musta scared him off though cause he hasn't been back; so it doesn't realy seem to matter how we treat them, some folks can take it, and some can't.
I vote for a "first visit / rules of conduct" page.

the problem you guys have is the shadow is a cheap bike to get so your getting every noob to biking in general. some twat finds a bike on craigslist for a grand and wants to be like the occ guys. so they need the lowering struts and rake right off the bat so they ask away. its not the site in generals fault just you guys walked into a cheaper market. you dont get these kinds of questions on a harley site cus money bikers just take it to a dealer anyway. i dont ask the stupid questions cus ive been a master tech for 10 years and these things are easier to build than a simple tranny overhaul. so this site as far as the older guys goes is more about personal expression than simple mechanics. but what do i know. im a noob. and i have so many posts in a month cus i play with my daughter from when i get off work till she goes to bed and the computer is in the living room. then im in the garage. thats why most of my posts are from 6-9.

I personally enjoy it when a Noob gets his/her panties in a wad...and I enjoy fucking with the real butt wipes of the noob bunch....and when they start with the "I fucked your wife and kicked you dog when I went by your house while you were at work " crap, well then I just Nuke the bastards for crossing the line.....simple as that.

I think the whole noobie thing is kinda funny once in a while, but I don't think its necessary for 10 people to tell the guy to fuck off. Once or twice is funny. Especially if its a decent question, not something like "gee where does the gas go"
Maybe I was welcomed better because I spent more time reading than posting. Honestly though I'd rather just help a guy, even if they ask a dimwitted question.

I like seein em all bent out of shape, but the disrespect is what kills me. I did get messed with, TWICE (Thanks again bastards) but you have to just take your licks and bite your tongue for a few weeks.. It will be over shortly, and you will find that when you ask a decent question, and have some insight, there will not be 1 FUCKOFFNOOB on the entire thread ( Well, until Beaker shows up.. We love you, you silly canadian )
It's all fun and games, but don't run around talkin about waiting to meet someone so you can beat their ass, people like Bigarmzz and Big O just might take you up on that offer and teach you a thing or two..
A n00b starter page is a good idea for any site, just being respectful enough to grasp the concept that you are entering a new place that clearly does not need any more members is a good starting point. When I got my bike I lurked around here and got a feel for everyone for months before even signing up let alone posting.. As long as you are respectful you will last a long time around here ( even if your questions are stoopid )
You don't need to have a road map. Just keep reeming those nOOb asses and see how they react. That's entertainment. (While you're waiting for more eye candy...hint)

I agree here, sometimes the noob bashing goes way overboard. I also agree sometimes people come here and are complete dicks, they deserve it, but the guys who get hammered with 50 fuckoffs and no real input is a bit overkill.
An intro page with direction to the search button and an explanation that these bikes have been around a while, so they have been modded in just about every imaginable way and there is usually a thread about it, might help.

Now that`s nice,if you got more you need to share.Whats this you want but can`t have?
haha, i think it's funny that the dude said that the money guys just take their shit to the stealer......not to hijack but, as much as i love the fact that more and more people are riding bikes these days, it's kinda a pet peeve of mine when dudes drop massive dough on a bike, clean it, ride it and take it to the stealer to get the chain lubed and adjusted or the oil changed.......
shit man, i'm only 28, but i feel like i must be "old school" cuz it just doesn't seem like a real biker to me unless it works on it's own bike! man maintaining and customizing my bike is part of my love for the motorcycle world. i like changing my oil and fuckin dropping grease all over my garage. and as much as i LOVE sport bikes, the majority of sport bike riders tend to give bikers a bad name in this respect, cuz all but 2 sport bike riders that i know (and i know a shit load of em) can't change their oil w/o my help. not that i mind, cuz i'm a REAL biker and so i love changin their oil for em.
and back to the thread; i don't see any need for any warning to any of the noobs comin in here. i think the very blatantly stated rules of conduct on the registration page should be warning enough.
and now that the subject is being discussed i'd like to say that i def agree w/ ssrider that sometimes the hazing goes overboard. i've said it a couple times before in some random threads, but i don't really make a big deal about it cuz everyone in here has every right to treat everyone else any way they please.
but personally, i will throw a fuckoff their way then try to answer their question....unless it's completely idiotic or something like "getting some popping when i decelerate from high revs, please help!". i like to fuck w/ noobs just enough to see if they've got the mettle to be a part of this community, but i keep in mind that this IS a community and i try not to cross the line to being a dick.

To me, the site is great like it is. I fully support the idea of earning your place. I have a view on life that is; Nothing worth having is easy to get. Society has made life just a little too damn convenient, and as a result you get all these whining little candy-asses who can't take a little flack. In my opinion, anybody that can't take a little shit talking shouldn't be on a bike anyway. They should stick with their own kind and maybe ride a Vespa!

I'm on several other forums, and they are boring. You have to follow a certain etiquette or the moderator boots you off. When I new person enters the site, you have to say welcome, and be nicey, nicey. Hell there are a couple that all the provocative words are $*%&% out. I couldn't even type Twinkies on one of them!
I love this site, because we can talk like men. We can make snide, insulting remarks, to each other and know that it's all in fun. When I saw the movie Gran Torino, I thought of this site, and how fun it is.

Ok, Ok, sometimes I just have to throw in my 2 cents. As you can see, I am a noob. I have very little posts on here because I use the search button. It is a good site for advice and how to's so I dont bother clogging up the site with questions, dumb or otherwise. Some people aren't so thick skinned and get pissed off easily, get over it.
Reading some of the replies on here, one guy said it is because the bike is cheap and you get alot of new people to the sport, BULLSHIT. I have been riding since I was 16 and have 30 years under my belt. It was a good choice for the money and got me back in the saddle again.
For what its worth probably not having much say because of my noob status, leave shit the way it is. Just because you dont have anything better to do than post dumb shit on here all day long, doesnt make you any better than anybody else. Yeah, I get my share of the "fuckoffnoob's" and "find the search button dumbass" remarks, so what. I like the site and its funny when I annoy the "holyer than thou" crowd.

the shadow vlx is a damn cheap bike in most cases and around here theres more of them at the license test than rebels and ninja 250's. your assuming im saying its cheap so its a hunk of junk. i never said that. i have a vlx and love it but its still a beginners bike in most cases.

Depends what you mean buy cheap please define . Cause if you mean a hardly and a honda (VLX )went across country the hardly is going to make it and the honda (VLX) isnt . Is that the def of cheap to you ? Well it aint to me its a better value not cheap to me . Would think most would agree .

It should not be about what you ride but why you ride it:jamming: . I would hope people that make a decision on what to buy is about how your going to use it and the amount of cash you have to buy it. I certainly wouldn't buy a Gold Wing for ALL city riding, and wouldn't buy a 250 for open highway.

It doesn't matter what anyone rides, as long as they ride. There are some pretty cool chops built out of VLX's, XS650's, etc, that have been ridden from coast to coast. It's only a motorcycle. The bigger mill only makes for a more comfy ride. I bet there are people who do long distance rides on Rebel 250's. No reason not to. The bike can handle it if the rider can. My .02.

oh POST # 10 on this thread
the problem you guys have is the shadow is a cheap bike to get so your getting every noob to biking in general. some twat finds a bike on craigslist for a grand and wants to be like the occ guys. so they need the lowering struts and rake right off the bat so they ask away. its not the site in generals fault just you guys walked into a cheaper market. you dont get these kinds of questions on a harley site cus money bikers just take it to a dealer anyway. i dont ask the stupid questions cus ive been a master tech for 10 years and these things are easier to build than a simple tranny overhaul. so this site as far as the older guys goes is more about personal expression than simple mechanics. but what do i know. im a noob. and i have so many posts in a month cus i play with my daughter from when i get off work till she goes to bed and the computer is in the living room. then im in the garage. thats why most of my posts are from 6-9.

Why is everybody getting all wrapped around the axle over the use of the word "cheap"? I'm pretty proud that my bike cost so much less than all those "American" V-Twin custom bikes, but looks so much better than most of them!

The reason why I'm not in a vtx1800 is because they cost about $7500 in my market slightly used and my '88 1100 cost me about $1800. I had 2 grand at the time (back when I was loaded)
I am not afraid to drop coin on something good but I am a
CHEAP BASTARD and proud!

Maybe inexpensive to purchase. but it kills the "money bikers" when they see your full custom for under 15K

i never said the vlx was a cheap quality bike. i said cheap as in easy to obtain for new people to biking. read post #69. i bought mine for 1000 bucks. alot of people get them for about the same price so cheap is easy to obtain in a vlx. then people go on forums and ask for quick help. did you not read the first post of this thread. i was referring to why poeple dont use search and ask stupid questions. i didnt call your bike a cheap piece of crap. but point me to where i did and ill apologise. or better yet ill leave your site. i never bashed anyones bike or called them cheap crap. oh well. i can see bashing noobs for being noobs but when someone has an opinion on a subject and is logically talking about it, then they get bashed well boo fucking hoo for you tough guys.
