You need some good tools to help you track down the spammer. Some of the best tools are included in Sam Spade. See http://www.freewr.com/freeware.php?download=sam-spade&lid=426to (http://to) download the program, which is free. The site also has some excellent on-line detective tools.

We need captcha and some kind of registering won't go into effect without a gallery, some shit that will make it a pain in the ass for the spammer to get in a few posts before getting nuked anyway. they won't come back then...

PS: I posted a sticky note on the Eye Candy category, HAH that sounds funny!, which is where we attract most of our spammers from links to porn, not sayin a bad thing, but copying the links and pasting into a new window and they can't track us.

Some message boards I belong to have a thing where you can't PM or start a new thread until you have a certain number of posts (from 5 to 20).
One makes you introduce your self in a noob thread before you even see the whole site, you can view the general section and that's about it. Might not be the most inviting thing for new people but it does cut down on spam.

On one of the other forums Im on you can only post once every 720 min until you hit 50 posts that goes the same for pm's. The spam doesnt exist on that site.
