i just traded my vlx to a 96 ACE, now i gotta learn all over again....
my first question is.. how does it get air, lol will a kn filter be usefull?
what are the speed to shift points? i know with my vlx i had to go into 2nd at about 20mph, 3rd at about 40 and 4th at about 55. 1st seems to go forever in on the ACE and i haven't even used 4th yet, thanks to the storms we are having.
where is a good site for parts for the ace? i heard a rattle and then it went away, after a few hours at home i noticed that i lost the back brake res. cover... i've looked on all the sites that i saved for my vlx for parts and didnt' see that cover
sorry for all the questions but i'm really lost with this bike atm. posting pics on gallery right after i post this.

i was trying to look over the bike because i have a ride in the morn and when i went to check the air filter i found that it has a K&N :D but i also noticed a pool of what looks like oil in the bottom of the airbox under the filter.. i know my vlx would get a lil oil but it also had a outlet for the oil to go. there was atleast a few ounces in there, would that be a bad thing or common for this bike? thanks
i forgot to mention that i changed the oil earlier today if that matters, the oil looked kinda clean so idk
also if i could ask, the ticking/clicking sound is normal right? i have searched but it seems people go back and fourth about it being nothing to being trouble. i am confused because nothing is nothing, lol and trouble is something i really don't need

K&N filters are a gauze type of material that you clean and re oil with filter oil. Folks usually put to much on and a little drips off.

hey does yours tick/click? i just changed the oil over to rotella T and i'm hoping it calms down a bit, kinda worried about it really. got a big rally coming up next weekend.

man the click n tick aint a problem, also, the oil in the air filter is because you need to be running 10-40 motor oil in the ace, my Honda mechanic told me that the books say to run that heavy shit, but to get rid of the oil in the filter housing run 10 40. But you know, as a nOOb I fully expect to be corrected.

What Voodoo said. Run 10-40, clean the excess off of your K&N and you will probably find there won't be as much residual in your airbox. My .02.

The airbox is part of the tree hugging emissions. Any blow buy from the crank case collects there. There should be a drain hose (I have a '97 ACE 1100) and there are actually three. The one with the cap is the drain for the air box.
I just read that the K&N filter is actually designed for racing and does a less than stellar job filtering air. The traditional filters give cleaner air to the motor. The air comes in around the seat and around the side covers....

when you use a K&N you lightly oil them and don't worry about the tiny bit in the box....it's there to trap dust and minute dirt particles. after about 4-5000 take the K&N out wash it, dry it, re-oil and start all over for the life of the bike....as far as them not being stellar, the whole point is to open up the air and not restrict it with a stock filter....it's all about letting your bike get a healthy breath of as much air as you can.........

i'm guessing the noise is normal, i've put over 2k miles on the bike since i got it with no problems at all. it's nice to have a bigger bike and the windshield is something i'll never do without agian. i plan on doing a few things in the winter time but atm i'm just enjoying the ride and weather.
