I'm in a bit of a restoration project for my son. What the hell does NOS stand for when referring to parts.

NOS= New Old Stock
NOS parts are are usually parts that the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is no longer making. But not always.
For instance. I am currently doing an R&R on a 1973 suzuki. Some clown on Ebay is advertizing NOS oil caps for this scoot for way over retail. This only matters when you find out that Suzuki is still making the part. And for way less cash.
Lesson learned? Always know thy parts.

It's for a bicycle for him. He wants to start racing next year and I have an old BMX bike left from when I raced.

I don't know how fast a bicycle on NOS (the juice) would be. But I guarantee it'd be funny as hell!!

New Old Stuff NOT Usualy it is for New Old Stock which usualy is what most builders look for when building stock show vehicles. But usualy cost premium prices. Unless You are building concourse de eligance type vehicles buy what is good quality at reasonable prices. Some new replacement parts are better quaility than NOS. Web searches can sometimes find a real welth of parts of all kinds. My youngest built bikes for a while and seemed like each on of them got stolen when they were finnished. So he decided to stick to motorcycles.
