Forward Control Extensions, 6" extensions, Fits Shaft drive Shadows
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reasons:
The purpose you got this.
At 6'2", I needed more leg room.
Cost:
Break down the cost, shipping, other parts needed, etc.
Cost was reasonable, cheap compared to new forwards. Shipping was cheap, not fast, nothing is crossing the damn border.... You need to remove the exhaust, it owuld be nice if the kit came with gaskets.

Give your feedback on quality, worksmanship, ease of use, value, etc.
Quality of the parts is great. When I pulled it out of the box I was impresed with the quality of parts, the finish was great. Very nice looking kit. I'm sure if you had a CNC plasma table and a powdercoat setup, you could easily make your own cheaper. Since I do not, great deal here! Well worth it in my opinion. My only complaint is the shifter rod setup. Unlike in the online instuctions that show a one piece rod, the kit came with a 6 inch extension and a joiner piece. It makes adjustment harder and makes the rod flex more as you are trying to push straight back on a non straight rod. I managed to bend the end of my stock rod when I went to check the shifting first thing. Grrrr...... Pissed me off..... I did find that if you put the short rod at the front and the stock one to the back with the stock one higher it kind of has some support from parts above and lessens the flex. I am looking into having a single rod made up for it, just need to find someone who can do the reverse threads.
Installation:

Shit, it's somewhere here on Shadowriders.... honest. The included instructions kind of suck ass, and they aren't even in Chinese.... The online ones are great.
Your specific tips installing, time required, feedback on ease of installation or not
Quite simple to instal, not sure of a time frame but I think it was around and hour start to finish. Nothing technical about it. See above about the shifter rod, my only issue.
Difficulty Rating(optional):
1-Noob, 2-Bolt On, 3-Minor Modding, 4-Major Mods., 5-Expert
2-bolt on
Summary:
Paragraph or less overview of your experience.
Other then my issue with the rod, it went on easy and looks like it belongs. I was worried the 6' kit would stick out too far, but it looks great. You would only notice it if you rode a Shadow. The ride is way better stretched out. I need to get out for a couple hours to really see the benefits, but even the short trips I have ridden are way better. I am no longer crouched up and actually for the first time sit in the seat where I should, not ridding up the back a bit. Much better feel to the seating position. I need to get used to the pegs being moved since I keep trying to put my feet on the pegs only to find there are none there. LOL I am sure that will pass soon enough. This is a long kit, if you are not over 6' or have an inseam of 32" or more, get the 4" kit. I am glad I went 6" rather then the 4".
Overall Rating:
1-Piece O' Shit, 2-Never Again, 3-Does What It Should, 4-Kicks Ass, 5-Makes your pants damp
5- Makes your pants damp!!!

A single rod will not clear the engine case, that is the reason for the offset and extension with the 6" kit. The 4" kit does come with a single replacement rod.
We have successfully installed installed the kit on Spirits without removing the exhaust, on the Aero it makes it much easier, I'll make a note of it in the instructions.
Did you have an exhaust leak after re-installing the parts?
In all the prototyping we have never had issues on any 750 with leaking gaskets.
We appreciate the review.

Thanks for the info on the rod. I never thought of that and will check it out before having one made. That would suck to get it done for nothing. But I did bend mine allready and need to do something there.....
I just blindly followed the instructions telling me to remove the exhaust, I figured there had to be a reason if it was in the instructions. It definately made the job easier, but I am sure it could be done on the bike. As is, I have no leaks, runs great and the extensions kick ass.
Thanks Joe!

Measure the original stock rod and I'll send you a replacement if it's bent too bad.

Thanks man, it bent where the threads start. I straightened it out but it just kinda has me on edge a bit. I don't need it rebending/breaking out in the middle of nowhere. I will let you know what I figure out. Thanks.
Can I add to my Review.... Obvious kick ass service!!

When you down shift, do it gently, trust me  I have the 2 piece rod that came with the older versions of the Spirit 4" and bent mine in the same place.

I bought the Scoot Mods kit to clear some exhaust pipes that I bought for my ACE, since they are slightly different than the Spirit and Aero.
The only thing I would say is that they definatly do not fit a rider with a 30" inseam. I'm 5'4" and usually wear boots when I ride and I was no where near close enough to being able to reach them.
That said, I bought them on a whim, only because the extensions let me run the pipes I wanted. The installation of them is easy with the directions and the craftsmanship of them is great.

I got the 4" extensions on my C2, I love them! My friend with the 09 Aero will be buying them soon. I am trying to convence him to buy them soon and from me so that I can upgrade to the 6" ones, I am a bit taller than him and he likes the length of the 4" on my bike.
Joe makes some great products! I get a lot of compliments on your struts! Great review TI!

Geez..... I guess I should update the link but seems some fine fellows posted more then one for you. Personally, with a black frame and black forward controls, I think chrome extensions would look wrong. Go with the black, it's not like you want the extensions to bling out at you....

my bike is silver, so i think chrome goes good with it, soon replacing the silver side covers with chrome as well, so black would hamper my theme..i cant comprimise, because once shes chromed out, i would think, damn, if only these fwds were chrome!

im thinking of the 6" guys, im about 6ft tall, are these too long?
TI 3VOM
09-29-2009, 03:58 PM
What kind of bike? The 6" on the C2 are great for me and I buy pants with a 36" inseam. Any shorter of legs and I think it would be a stretch. But it sounds like a 6" on the older 750's isn't as far out.
deathGrip
10-02-2009, 11:50 AM
shadows are built for 5'8-5'10, so 5'10 - 6'-1" tall = 4" extensions....6'2"- 6'4" tall = 6" extensions...above 6'-4" ride a horse.

10-02-2009, 01:59 PM
I'm 5'10-11ish and the 4's stretch me out nice, yet still keep my legs at a slight bend. If I went with the 6ers, my legs would be straight as an arrow stretched out. It just depends how much you want to stretch.
CheeseMan316
10-02-2009, 02:46 PM
I don't like the stretch, she likes the striz'etch.

RE: 08 C2-4" Ext
5'10" with 30" inseam. 4" are perfect. Quality material, workmanship, design, and easy to install. 5 Stars! Buy with confidence and Do It Now! Your hips and knees will thank you (especially if you've been safety challenged in the past)
Now, if they'd only make lowering kits.... hint hint

I am having trouble with my brake coming back up. When i apply the rear brake it seems to stick and the not come back up. remember i put the 6" scoot mod forwards on it. It gets annoying having to take your toe and bring the break up when ever you take off... It doesn't drag just makes the brake light stay on and makes stopping kind of a pain in the a**...
Pecos

Try using some washers to space the bracket. I had this problem with my ACE, disassembled everything and cleaned things up some and it stopped. You could also try and replace the return spring with something stronger.

I think everyone has had this problem when they install forwards. You just gotta mess with the brake spring, rod, and rod/nut back by the rear wheel until it works exactly how you like it.

well i have read through this thread and notice almost every one had either 750 or an 1100. i have a vlx 600 and was curious if anyone out there had any reviews on the forwards on them. i bought the 6" but now a little hesistant while waiting for them in the mail after reading this thread. i am not a tall guy i am about 5'9" 5'10" on a good day, but i figured 6" wouldnt be too bad because the vlx forwards are basically right under you. any one have any input on this.
thanks
