I bought this jacket for a couple reasons. First off, breathability. Over half of this jacket is mesh and breathes extremely well. I live in Phoenix and we've already had a couple days over 100 degrees and I was very comfortable once I started moving. Second was looks. I'm not a "biker". I don't want some neon green racing jacket. I got the black one and it looks nice. Lastly was protection. Pads in the hard hit areas plus spine protection and thicker material on the elbows, forearms and shoulders.

I hit the pavement at 60mph and slid for quite a while on the freeway. The jacket is toast, but I am not. I had 6 EMT's asking a bunch of questions about the cost, etc. on the jacket and telling me that they haven't seen anybody hit pavement at that speed and be in as good of shape. As far as the part of my body that is covered by the jacket I've got a couple spots of road rash on each elbow and a bunch on my lower back where the jacket came up a bit when I was sliding down the road, but that's it. The strongest thing that I can say is that once the bike is fixed I am buying the same jacket again.

Couldn't agree more with your review.I live in Alabama where it's very humid and bought a Phoenix 4.0 at the beginning of last year mainly for comfort in the summer.Well last summer I had my first accident, not moving as fast as you were but fast enough if I had not been wearing gear things would have been much much worse.I was amazed how well the jacket held up,even more amazed with how little rash I got on the upper body.It made me a believer in the armor they put in them too,if I hadn't had armor on the elbows mine would have been hamburger.

Needless to say I bought another 4.0 after that.Thank God the wife hasn't had to put her's to the test yet.I'm also glad that you were wearing protection Morgan,I hate to think about how bad it might have been had you not.Stay safe and heal fast brother.

Good to hear you're okay! Also good to hear the J.R. jackets hold up well. This is the one I bought:

UPDATE: My back would have been fine if I had realized that the jacket had clips that attach to your belt specifically for this reason.

hmm.. I'll have to look at my icon now to see if it has those clips. Sucks that you found that out now.
