Ok you guys see my bike in my sig pic, well it looks pretty stock :help:

Being a VLX it will never look like some of yours, any ideas on some easy and cheap mods to set it apart from the rest

This weekend I drilled out the baffles and removed the small Honda logo on the side covers and am going to tuck the plate up under the light and get rid of those reflectors and light assmb back there.

So besides spending a fortune on a new tank and paint any ideas

Chrome frame trim to break up that black area on the left side. New cables. Get some bolt head covers. That's some small stuff to start with

Ok I thought I knew everything I could get for my bike! Do you mean LIke the chrome caps for the bolts (bolt head covers) for all the misc bolts , Or are you talking about the rear chain adjusting bolt cover?

And as far as the cables I have found a cover kit that does the whole bike and they have them in Chrome, black, grey,Carbon Fiber look and only like 27 bucks think that would looks just as good ?

Thanks for the info on the mirrors also SmokeShowin!

Thanks for all the help

Search for "cool covers" for the plastic chrome caps for the bolt heads. For some of the other stuff try www.scootworks.com

As far as the cable covers go, beware, you get what you pay for.

Along the same lines as Airport... I found some slick little spike-end bolt heads. A company called "Hap Jones" makes them, but I haven't had much luck finding them online yet. Used them to replace bolts on my speedo, side covers, rear fender mount, etc.

Cheap and good way to dress up a stock bike.

You can also throw some LED accent lighting on it.

Try this guy, I've bought from him several times and always had great service

Cool Airport ! Are these very bright ? I have wanted to do that but there are so many out there... And will the 10 light set do the whole bike ?

The lights are bright looking at the end. They don't give out a lot from the sides. But then again you want them for accent, so you don't need them to be like Main St. USA.

Anyhow, on Susan's, the blue lights are mounted 2 under the front fender (to highlight the wheel and spokes), 3 on the right side of the engine, 1 on the left side of the engine (plus the switch for them is mounted there with a blue LED in it), 1 on each side of the inside of the swingarm.

The UV/ Blacklights are mounted under the bike, 2 behind the chrome grill cover, and 3 under the speedo assembly

I'll try to get some pics for ya

You need to find some pics of custom VLX's to show her. Everybody wants to put their own mark on their bike.

Sorry for the slow response... here's a picture of the Hap Jones nut covers.

I just found them at my local bike shop - I think they were like a buck a piece. I'll see if I can get a better picture.

Hey Brunowren,

I hv some suggestion for a start. First, the cheapest mod I’ve ever done & give me the biggest smile was polished my fork & other aluminium parts around bar. This is the most visible area. You can also add chrome caps to the fork dust-seal. See the result below.

Changing the signal light is a must. Another item that I like a lot is the chrome rear sprocket cover, cheap & good. I also think that cable ties make a lot of difference. Tidy up your cables & wires at the front… it will look great. You don’t have to buy a lot of chrome goodies.

If you like to go further, maybe you can look for lowering kit or rigid strut. The stock VLX shockbreaker has a very long travel distance & BIG gap between rear fender and tire. The result is quit dramatic. See the purple VLX below. Check www.scootworks.com for front & rear lowering kit. Also www.sotmc.com/slamthefront.htm for DIY front lowering tips.

Oh yes btw, my VLX is the fastest…the BLACK one. Good luck with your mods.

Hey Ghost - Bike looks bad-ass! Question about polishing your forks - what all is entailed (process, what did you use, etc). And where did you find the fork seal caps?

There was a tutorial on the old site. Maybe someone could dig it out and post it here. I think it was Nok that did it.

Ghost_Rider

Thanks Noize. Yes, Nok posted a detailed instruction in the old website. maybe Menace still has the file.

You will need to get a good paint remover, sand paper in 400, 600, 1000 grit (for dry sanding) & 1500 grit for wet sanding. You can continue to 2000 grit but I was happy with 1500. Last one, Mother's Mag & Aluminium polish.

For forks you will need to sand it first to make the surface perfectly smooth. But for brake reservoir, hand controls & riser, go ahead with paint remover & Mother's.

I used hand sanding for small items and drill for large surfaces. Do each sanding 2 or 3 times. Just make sure that before you start with Mother's, what's left is a very very fine scratches on the surfaces.

See the picture, I used drill with paint roller attached to a drill bits. For sanding, wrap it with sandpaper following the rotation, secure at the bottom with rubber band. For polishing just use the roller it self with Mother's. Just be patience & becarefull not to damage the soft aluminium surface.

As for my fork seal caps I can't help you much, I got it in Jakarta. I saw Nok is using a chrome seal as well, maybe he can help you.

You just had to stick that radiator cowl out there like that didnt ya!!I emailed them about another, but got no response.Anyway, has anyone had any issues
with the forks and such rusting,or getting dull looking after this mod?

Tangledj,

If the guy (KAC) currently doesn't have an SS 750 in his workshop for a mock up, I doubt he can do it for you. Lots of ACE & VLX/Steed over here, but Spirit is very rare. Sory for that bro... Hv you try local workshop who can do sheet metal? I can give you a few detail shots if you need.

As for the forks, as far as I know aluminium can't rust. Just keep it away frm rain & wipe asap if water gets on the surface. After 1 month mine are still look as good, didn't get dull at all.
