I just installed the 412 11.5 hd shock on my 1800 c 2006. Me and buddy sat on the bike and bounced on it a few times. Is there anything that needs to be removed or adjusted to keep from bottoming out. The shocks are set as soft as possible. They did'nt feel bad but if we really smashed down it felt like the tire was coming in contact with the fender. I have'nt riden it yet since it's 22 degrees here today, I just wanted to pick someones brain before tearing up my rear tire.

Not sure if the progressives have the adjustment but you said it was on the softest setting, bump it up a couple notches and see if that helps.

the softest setting should be lightweight rider going solo

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. i would have responded sooner but we got a warm day here ( 57) and I had to go ridin. The shocks worked great with just me on the lowest setting. Another example of good advice from this site. I bought these shocks after reading several comments from the members here. Thanks to all you folks.

they should have come with a spanner wrench so that you can set the pre-load for different riding situations, and a little picture how to for the dumb ones.......

I ride in the middle setting on the standard spring ones!

preload is determined entirely by rider weight. if you're heavy or if you ride 2 up a lot, have it set nearer to the stiffest setting.
i'm very light myself but always run on the stiffest setting just for better performance on the corners.

What mr.Quam just said....except that I opt for the middle setting....I'm right at 161lbs (don't ask me what the fuck that is in metrics), I tried lowest and highest and just feel best at center. Lowest to me just felt to spongy and stiffest, well just to stiff........Oh yeah I'm on the 11" 412's

....I'm right at 161lbs, don't ask me what the fuck that is in metrics... That would be 73 kilos or 11.5 stones I believe.

Measuring weight in stones is English, it's just not American.
