Snow and ice no longer, we had a couple of nice days here in the Midwest in the 60's Friday and Saturday.

What did I do?

Went camping and fishing. The trip had some interesting highlights (I will get into later) but I had to post a quick video I shot. This is the beginning part of my favorite stretch of "country roads" but look more like highways to me. If you are ever in the St. Louis Area, LET ME KNOW!! These roads are just as fun as all of the mountain roads in Tennessee and North Carolina. There was a lot of water coming from the snow that was melting. I sped of the video to be the speed I would have gone on dry day.

Anyway, I'm still a little pumped. The total stretch that I am referring to is from Potosi, MO to Bixby, MO via MO-P to MO-C to MO-Y to MO-49 if anyone cares.

HERE IS THE LINK TO THE VIDEO:

I mounted the Canon ELF to the left mirror. I'll show some pictures of my mount, too. It cost me $3 to make.

Awesome! Thanks Dude! I feel like I haven't seen grass in a year. Even though we got a good thaw today, it's still gonna be awhile as there's still a couple of feet of snow.

with the move to albuquerque the house we're looking at is east of there and see quite a bit of snow but it's on 5 acres and not in town so I'm thinking about it.

I pulled into the campground and there was about 4 inches of ice/snow pack still on the ground just about everywhere. There were only about 2% of the sites that had melted. The ground was still frozen underneath and it was hell to get my tent spikes in.

That said it's been years since snow was on the ground for any sort of consisnency. Mostly cold with two or three big snows a year.

Now in 1983....

I tell my kids "back when it used to snow"

This is one of my favorite places (Montauk State Park) on my favorite form of transportation. In the summer they stock trout to keep up with demand. Not quite as sporting as it is now with a self sustaining population that is much pickier (catch and release only). I was proud of the ones I got today even though I didn't get to eat them.

Funny Story:

I ate a big pot of Jambelia with hotdogs for dinner. Sat around the small fire I made (anyone notice the bundle of firewood on the back of the bike at the campground) drinking a sixxxer. I finally went to bed and zipped myself into my mummy (didn't keep warm enough) and went to sleep.
I woke up to nasty Cajun farts wafting up from my sleeping bag and the sound of plastic rustling outside. I poked my head out and yelled at the 'coon to beat it. We it wasn't a coon but a skunk so I quickly slipped back inside. "He can have the food" I thought to myself. Moments later, I awoke to a rustling sound much nearer and turned to see the same skunk, eye to eye with me. He had stuck his head under the rain fly and was about 18 inches away from my face, sniffing. I told him in a calm voice that the smell was My ass and not food and for him to leave because I didn't want to smell his.
