Long story short, Ran my ’06 SS750DC up to a hundred with new Metzler 880’s and my bud behind me told me smoke was pouring out the back. Got back to the shop, pulled the front fender and the bottom was covered in rubber.

Centrifugal force had increased the circumference of the tire, which caused the fork brace to shave off some of the new Metz. I measured the clearance between the cold tire and the brace and it was less than 1/16”, or 3 cunt hairs. Metz <st1>recommends 3/8” minimum.</st1>

Pulled the brace planning on adding the 3/8” above the fender mounting holes, but then the fender wouldn’t mount back up. Cut the brace both sides on the flat just below the fender mounting holes and just above the outward bend. Welded in some 1/8” plate 3/8” tall on both sides.

Grind, putty, and paint.

Lots of room now, and the front doesn’t look any different than stock with the stock front tire.

BTW, I never got my fuck Off Noob, and I feel left out.....:spank:

When the knock on the door said "Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms", I naturally thought it was a delivery.

I Dunno.

Back in the '70s we used to add them to our MX bikes to take out the wobbles. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Good job there Swilly. I like the way that you managed to mod the bracket but still leave it looking unaltered. That front tire looks quite a bit more substantial than the factory rubber. Glad to see that you posted a tutorial and not a "I don't know how to use the search button and I have 400 questions" thread. As for not feeling welcome, we can't have that.....

So, FUCKOFFYOUWINNIETHEWHO?MODTHREADPOSTINGSTOCKTIREHATINGNOOBIE!!!!

And welcome to the forum....

You don't need the brace. Lots of guys have removed it.

i've seen a couple dudes running w/o the brace or fender. the only negatives in my op is all the rocks and mud you'll wind up eating and a little less solidarity in the front end at lower speeds. maybe some death wobbles at high speeds.
i had this same problem when i installed my 110/90 but i just took a dremel and ground out a channel in the middle of the brace to allow the tire some more room. this is what most other dudes in here did.
that way the fender still rides real low onthe tire.

They make some nice aftermarket front fenders for not much bread.

110/90/19.:madani:

Someone else mentioned ovaling out the holes in the brace to raise it and get a little more clearance, I'd give that a shot before ruining some good chrome. Maybe they'll jump in with more info.

BUMMER!

Def what Mr Quam said, I took a grinder to the underside of the brace and removed about 1/8"of the metal from about 1" left and right of center.

I heard that there is not much room there but I checked after my tires were put on and i got plenty of room. I'd say 1/2"

Still have to allow for expansion after the tire get`s heated up.I`d say at least a 3 to 5/16 of an inch and that`s a guess.Just my drunkin 2 sense.
