My next mod, will be an engine rebuild. My timing chain broke, need I say more?
I thought replacing my engine would be cheaper than completely rebuilding my motor, so I called my local stealer for a price on a new engine, they said Honda doesn't sell complete engines. True or not I don't know but it sounds like BS. Anyone know if this is true? :madani:

Can't say as I've ever heard of anybody buying a new motor
from Honda.

Motorcycle salvage yards and Ebay are two good sources.

What year/model do you have ? Somebody on the Board
may know of something for you !!

That really sucks! I'm thinking engine rebuild, never heard of ordering an engine. You could always get a new scoot!!

That does suck, but it might give you an excuse to look at the DP mods while you are rebuilding.

maybe look into an aftermarket engine.
what led to the timeing chain breakin??.oh wait i just seen your signature.
(ride it like you stole it).that answers my question.sorry man.
if you look into the rebuild at least now you could do the engine mods.

Yeah, I was running a little behind the other day so, trying to get all my shit together after Hurricane Katrina blew through here (So. FL) so I thought I'd ride the scoot in to work and make up some time on the highway. All in all, I lost 3 hours of work, 85 bucks for the tow, invaluable aggrivation from speeches from friends and family members, about my riding habits, and who knows what kind of bill I'll be looking at once the stealer gets done tearing the motor down. Anyway it is a 2003 SS 750. After the mechanical fault is identified I'll let everyone know.

I was looking at some new bikes at the stealer this morning, some really nice, but $ way out of line. I don't think a VTX is in the works anytime soon, but possibly a rebuild, which wouldn't be a 'build without stuff like DP mods, which by the way bump up the output up to 70hp if they are all done. 1 broken motorcycle, some cash, and a little time to think, man the future looks great! Ride like you stole it..... gently? :shame:

Search Ebay, there was one on there this past week. Don't know if it's over or not though.

BTW try contacting the seller direct. This is the second week he had it listed. He might want to make a deal.

Really what would life be without a sense of humor and good folks to laugh at you when things go wrong, I mean sometimes I just got to laugh at myself too yeah, Who would truly want to live a life where perfection was the rule and not the dream......I know I'd be bored as hell. :biggrinje

That's crazy, the timing chain just broke? From riding it hard? That shouldn't happen.

Okay it goes down like this, I blew my motor, got the bike towed to the stealer, they told me a connecting rod broke, and it's gonna be expensive to fix. I enquire about another engine, I buy the one above listed on ebay, thinking all it needs is a valve lash adjustment, like the seller told me. It arrives, I look it over, the bottom of the case is cracked and JB welded. I pay the stealer about 400 for the tow and removing the engine, I take my bike and 2 engines home, Oh shit I think, this thing ain't gonna run and install it anyway. 2 hours later fire it up, needs a valve adjustment my ass, this thing needs connecting rod bearings. Now I got 2 bad motors. Anyway I now have the first one pulled a part. No broken rods just F'ed up rod bearings, both, no broken timing chain, everything else is as it should be.

Any time you buy used you're setting yourself up for disappointment 'specially if it's snagged on the world's biggest yard sale - ebay. Dunno bout laws in your state, but there're laws to prevent fraudulent sales here (even if a credit card wasn't involved).

Example: Mr. Smith purchases a product claimed to perform A and B and it only performs A.....Mr. Smith is screwed until he contacts BBB and such. Once threat of litigation is presented the company re-positions itself to make Mr. Smith happy.

Repairing or replacing the chain is no biggie (for me) ......finding out why/how it snapped is the main issue.

Did a rod bearing or some other major component fail first?

PS.....sorry if it takes me a few days to respond...I'm in La. and my hands are full.
