First week of August we took "The Dragon" Was a great exprience on my Honda Shadow Spirit VT 1100cc. Smooth cornering, great ride....make sure you eat before you go....The station on the Dragon complete with food and T-shirts will pick your pockets clean.
And stay with a smaller bike.....suzuki 1500cc dragged on the running boards.
Watch out for speed demons and grandpa pushing 5 mile an hour on the straight-a-ways.
Someone asked if I,d do it again.....HELL, YEA!

Isn't there a big Dragon run every year? Anyone know when it is. Where exactly is the dragon? NC, SC??

The guys over at TSW (http://www.thespiritworld.org) usually do a run every year. Used to be in June but this year they moved it to May, not sure but that may be the new month for them. Quite a few show up for it, they pack the Jam Inn.

Just got back from there Sunday night. We stayed at Fontana Dam Village, about 11 miles up US 28 from Deals Gap Resort. I highly recommend Fontana Village. We rented a 1 bedroom cabin as did several others in our group.

The majority of the Dragon is in Tenn., just the last few miles are in NC. The Tenn. part is actually a better road than the part in NC.

While riding the Dragon is fun, I must advise not to get hung up on doing the Dragon, there are MUCH better roads to ride in the area. We logged about 450 miles in 2 days, riding through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway(by far, my favorite), the Cherohala Parkway and a few other connecting roads. If you like BEAUTIFUL scenery to look at while you ride, I cannot recommend the Smokies enough.

Not all the pictures that were taken have made it up on the site yet, but if you want to check out a few, click on this link:

I will get my pics up soon and I'm sure that others will too, so there should be more to see in a few days.

Heres a couple more links to check out if you're interested:

http://www.dealsgap.com and http://www.fontanavillage.com

If you go to dealsgap.com and click on the "dragon photos", then go to Friday, Aug. 19th, on the 7th and 8th pages of photos is my wife looking like she's about to be run over by some asshole in an SUV. Too bad I wasn't with her on that run, I'd liked to have "talked" to that SUV driver - if you know what I mean!
