Quick question

I'm still pretty new around here but I've noticed a few things that haven't changed since some of the oldest threads I've read on this site. There has always been a problem with new people (like myself) asking questions that have been answered 1000 times before. This is always followed up with some pretty pissy and equally hilarious "use the search button responses." The problem is everytime I use the search button I try to be as specific as possible and I get every post that has even one of the words I searched for in it. If someone is searching for a "rear fender mod" every post with the word rear, fender, or mod seems to show up. I don't need to tell you guys that almost every thread on this forum has the word mod in it. I don't know shit about site programming or even computers but is there possibly a way to refine searches or make an option to only get threads that use the entire phrase you're searching for. It would probably cut down on the repeat questions and stuff. Just a suggestion.

Just put up with the "fuck offs" and "use the search" ...sooner or later, somebody helpful will post the solution to your question ....the search, while useful, isn't the answer to every problem.

I don't know what the deal is but, this forum takes pride in giving new members a hard time. ...extra brownie points for the most "fuck yous" thrown out in any given day!

Also there's these usefull terms when doing searches. They're AND and OR. Next time you do a search try "rear AND fender AND mod". Sometimes just puting it in quotes "rear fender mod" will also work. Hope that helps.

Holy shit!! I just posted this as I was leaving work and already on page 2!! Thanks for the suggestion Quam, I have actually tried a few different ways to search but still seem to get waaay too many threads. I'll try some of your guy's other suggestions though. I hadn't tried all of them so thanks! As far as the question goes, I think some people here need to realize that a lot of the NOOBS here may be new to forums in general. I'm not the kind of guy that spends all day on the computer like some people here. I suppose I was under the impression that some people were tired of getting the same questions over and over, and I didn't count on the fact that some people just live for the "FON" shit. It doesn't bother me at all, I just wish so many people on this bike forum would respond when I post an actual "Bike Queston."

No doubt bro, that wasn't meant to be a slam at all. What makes people happy on their own time is their buisness. I just happen to notice that some of the guys on this forum that reply to everyother thread are not usually very helpful. (That is not reffering to anyone that posted above) I personally would rather be riding or working on my scoot than hanging out on the forum, just me. I tend to show up when I have questions or every now and then to see if I can help someone else out.

I realize that man, that's why I made it a point to say I wasn't referring to anyone that posted in this thread. Quam, you have personally pointed me in the right direction on a couple of my questions before so again I thank you. I agree there are a few really good and helpful people on this forum, and I have actually made a couple friends here already. On the other hand there also a lot of people here that seem like they only exist on this forum to get information off of everyone else and not give anything useful back besides constant flaming (I'm not gonna name names because that's not my style). Who knows, they probably don't even own bikes. I'm just saying those types are pretty lame.

Let me just say being in the service for almost the past 10 years I was taught to NOT bring up a perceived problem unless you have a solution to back it up. I thought the search was a little difficult to sort through ( a conclusion I drew from trying to "search" for stuff on my own w/out having to ask repetative/bothersome questions) and tried to point out what I thought could help fix the problem. Turns out I was just unfamiliar and some people on this thread were helpful enough to point out some things I hadn't tried that worked great. So maybe it wasn't a total wash to ask, and maybe some other noob that was afraid to get flamed read this little post and learned how to better search for himself as well. As far as the fuck off noob greeting goes, dude it doesn't hurt my feelings in the slightest. After soon to be four combat zone experiences in the past 7 years to date there is not a goddamn fucking thing anybody on this forum can do to upset me. I joined this forum because in "lurking" I realized there are a few people on this site that are as knowledgeable as they come on the specific bike most of us own. Those are the peoples brains I'm here to pick. I totally understand about paying your dues, that's the only reason I even mentioned what I do. The military is the worst for that, but it's also fucked because of the assholes who forgot where they came from. Everyone starts somewhere man. The last 3 I feel I need to qualify by saying they were war zones and I was working for a U.S. Contractor building Air Fields/ Tank Washs, for U.N. Forces....it must be the thrill of danger that gives me a rush because to this day I do dangerous construction work as a superintendent for a nation wide disaster restoration company.....

That's cool man. I probably shouldn't have assumed you were talking to me. You know what they say about assumptions. I guess I figured since I posted the original question and was pretty much the only noob on the entire thread that it was directed my way. I really have to clarify though, I wasn't trying get into a "whose dick is bigger competition" I appreciate what you have done, especially on a day like today. As far as I'm concerned service is service. I know there are a lot of AD GI's and vets on this forum, I was just trying to illustrate that I'm not at all thin skinned and totally understand the paying your dues thing. Actually the pics on my gallery are really old. The only reason I haven't posted new ones is because I'm at that weird point where you spread yourself thin with a few projects and the bike is all over your garage in pieces. I originally wanted to do what everyone else was doing on here then I decided my VLX could look good as an old school bobber. The mirrors were scrapped replaced with a single old school mirror. I'm trying to find Z bars I like. I made straight shorties from the stockers, Having my seat redone as we speak, and chopped all the turn sigs to replce with SS Riders setup. The reason I want to make a rear fender from a trailer blank is because I need to gut out the rear fender setup so I can wire in Rider's setup and not have it look like a dirtbike. (something like Bracketman's fender) I also want to replace the stock tank with a coffin can. Whitewalls going on this weekend also. Whew, I hope to have some pics of a "non stock bike" up in a couple weeks. Thanks for the input though man. That's really all I was after.
