not sure if any one can help put here is how it is.i think my computer has
a virus.symptoms:i click on internet explorer to open internet and a warning pops up,"PROGRAM ERROR/IEXPLORER.EXE HAS GENERATED ERRORS AND WILL CLOSED BY WINDOWS .YOU WILL NEED TO RESTART THE PROGRAM.
AN ERROR LOG IS BEING CREATED."
the only way i could get to shadowriders.net is to go to control panel and click on
internet options, and then click on favorites any thing that was in my favorites
works, except for links, example,if i go to a post in here and there is a underlined
link in a thread. the program error message will pop up,also if i go into the garage and click to enlarge picture the program error pops up. :worried:

I don't use IE. Can you download Firefox here?
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
I would reinstall IE from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx

Make sure your Antivirus is up todate also.

There was a new virus this week for Win2000, check with Norton's site to see if your symptoms are what the new virus causes. From what I've read it causes you to reboot your computer, so perhaps you are infected.
If you want to try your Norton online scan again....Restart your computer in "safe mode" with network support. If you don't know how, just shut down the computer. Restart it and continue to "tap" the F8 key until you see a screen with options.
Once you've done that use the online scan at Norton if you prefer, or my choice would be http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
Their online scan is a bit better. Don't worry about some of the spyware that it detects, it gives a couple of false reading on that scan. Once you've done your scan you can reboot your computer. Running this in safe mode will keep TSR programs from running when you start the computer and some virus's have memory resident processes that won't allow you to delete them
If you aren't running a spyware program, download this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en
It's free and quite good.
You would be well advised to get spybot search and destroy as well as Adaware. Both programs will help keep your computer clean when you run them on a regular basis (keep your definitions updated, that includes your anti virus)

But as Menace suggested, get a copy of Mozilla Firefox and start using that. You'll have a lot less issues with pesks getting into your system when you visit websites.
If removing the virus(s) from your system don't eliminate the problem you are experiencing with IE, then reload it. I would use that as a last resort seeing your issue may be caused by a virus.

IE is built in the OS so you can dump the icon, but it will always be there in Windows. I only use IE to update Windows. I like Firefox because of the tabbed multiple browsers. You can have multiple sites open in one browser and just tab between them. Also, you can change the skin of firefox.

ok. I would hope your work is behind a firewall so you should be fine as long as you keep your virus software up to date.
