fuel pump problems

Hey guys thanks for the help with the carbs!!!

I just bought an cdi unit finally got spark and no fuel... How do I test the fuel pump?
I just took power from the battery and hooked up to one side and nothing I thought I would have heard the pump turn on or some kind of noise but nothing is that a good indication the pump is bad? Is there and relay or somehting like that for the pump.. I have gas at my petcock but no gas coming out of the float screw on the carbs...

I finally got a fuel pump so the bike starts and idles but when I touch the throttle it dies down.. I took the carbs out cleaned them went through everything what could be wrong?????
