Just got a 2006 750 spirit, have heard pros and cons about the holesaw mod to remove baffles. how bout some honest input? is it worth damaging stock pipes? or maybe better to keep stock pipes as spares and dish out the bucks for pipes and jets?

Stock pipes collect dust in the garage . IF I where to run stock I would pull the resonaters . If you don't like it , I have a set of stock pipes I could sell you .

I did the holesaw mod on mine right after the 600 mile service. Since I dont wanna spend the cash for new pipes, its a great mod. It may void the warantee, but its a honda, you dont need one any way.

Just so we are clear on this topic. The hole saw mod does NOT remove the baffles, you are removing the resonators. All the resonators are used for on the SS is to quiet the bike down.
The baffles, if changed, removed, or modified may require you the adjust the fuel mixture. That may void the warranty, removing the resonators should not since it does not require any change in the factory fuel/air mixture.

I removed the resonator and the plate that held the end of the resonators and then I punched 3/8 inch holes in perferated plate and the baffles and still didnt have to rejet my 1100 and almost totaly obliterated the open tincan sound it does have a distinct poping sound on full throttle and plenty of power to spare infact my milage went to almost 50 mpg on the road. It's your choice quiet or loud but not too loud. I would do it again. Remember it will not sound like a hardley.and it won't vibe your nads like one either. :dig:

people who have been running this mod for a while...will this mod cause blueing of the pipes?

Blueing of the pipes will happen if you have a lean condition. Just make sure you adjust your air/fuel mixture screws. You'll have to do this to eliminate any 'popping' you get on deceleration. The stock pipes have a heat shield covering them so you wouldn't notice the blueing like on some bikes.

I thought it might be a good idea to tell some of you why I can get by with out rejeting. I live at about 3,500 feet above sea level and almost all my riding is done at that altitude or above some times between 8,000 and 10,000 ft. and if You think that doesn't make a dog out of any bike You should try it some time. If your bike is running rich all you will see is black smoke from the tailpipe at that hight. Anyone who has ever been involved in racing can tell you what barometric preasure does to fuel mixture. And if You think it does strange things to your bike try doing some physical activity! When I first did the holesaw mod I didn't like the tincan sound so that is why I opened up the baffels. It does sound better but if You live close to sea level it probably would help if You rejet to keep from running lean, if You open the bafflels up as much as I have. Good luck and happy MODing.
