I just got and installed the kit on my bike . Wow , I love it . We have no product review area so I thought I would let every one here know .

I've got the same and totally agree - I love the way it looks and rides.

I bought a used set from Meanstreak for $70 . It really changed the look and feel . It is really hard to do that for so little money .

So exactly what do you change on the bike since the site says it is such an easy install?

Is it just new shocks or ?

Thanks
Chris

Just a little bracket that changes the angle of your shock. Two holes - the front (toward the front of the bike) bolts to the spot where your shock originally sits. The rear is where you move your shock to.

It helps if you've got a jack, but not essential. Mr. Sin's right - I think it had the most impact per dollar of any mod that I've done.

Cool, does anyone have a picture of this on their bike? I am kind of afraid of what the bracket might look like on the side of the bike. Not sure if it would be better to have the shocks shortened for the money.

If nobody beats me to it, I'll try to get a picture when I get home tonight.

I think you will only notice if you look for it . The pictures on scootwerks tell all . The only thing that they don't show is how low you will sit when you put wieght on the bike . If you look at the pictures again you will notice 2 bolts . One will be where the shock bolt was origanaly and where the shock is mounted a few inches back .

Here is a link . The picture that is the swingarm and shock should explain what I could not .http://209.15.36.61/swcart/shop.cgi/page=partshonlower.htm/SID=1122306930.20610

Thanks after reviewing the pictures al ittle more I think I see what you are talking about now. I would think it would be pretty simple to make a bracket like that? However for the price I mgith just see about getting mine shortened and was thinking it might be cool to have the springs powdercoated purple to match the bike.

I appreciate all the help.

Anyone have a source for small bullet style lights that have the correct size threads for mounting them in place of the fender strut bolts?

Thanks again
Chris

I'll throw in my .02.....keep in mind any future tail light mods ya might have planned and whether ya ride 2 up or solo since ya'll lose some fender clearance. I concur with the other guys - good bang for the buck.

I have a 1.5 lower kit with progressive 418 11' shocks and I was wondering if anyone thats installed combinaton or the 2.5 lowering kit alone with the stock shocks has had to make any other modifcations to the fenders and/or the fender supports to keep them from bottoming out.

Any info would be helpful.

To add to this, If you have no plans of doing any 2 up riding would it be ok to remove the fender support on the bottom side of fender along with the turn signals? Is the struts on the outside of fender enough to just hold the fender? I figured I could get it even lower by removing this support?

Any opinions are welcome.

I am running the stock shocks with the 2.5 . I have not yet bottomed out . Even when riding 2 up . I am about 210lbs and my passenger was 107lbs . I hit a few chuck holes and it was ok . Many people have removed the subframe . If you ride solo it is no big deal . Not recomended for 2 up . Billski has a diagram of the subframe on his site [ links page ] . It is pretty simple to remove it but would help if you have a bike jack ! Son of metric thunder can cut and powdercoat your springs for you [ also on the links page ] . Tangled J at one point also offerd to do so for a small fee , a while ago . I don't know if he still wants to but it is worth a try , he is an awesome guy ! Frome what I hear struts do not beat you up that bad compared to stock . Many people remove the subframe and cut the rear fender to shape and run struts for a real trick look . Look at Brotherbakers bike in the garage for an idea .Hope this helps .

I keep reading about people looking for 10" or 9.5" rear shocks. What is the length of the stock shocks? Also, do I need any special tool to keep the shocks compressed when I add a Scootworks rear lowering kit?

Mr.Sinister

No compressor needed . I just changes the mounting angle by moving the mounting position back and keeps the same level of travel .

Well I feel better knowing that I don't need any special tools. Does anyone know how long the stock shocks are, just for comparison?

I just did some searching and some guy is selling the stock rear shocks on ebay and he says that they measure 12 inches. I'm not sure if this is right, but unless some else can tell me otherwise, I'm going with that.

ebay oem shocks (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-Showa-Shocks-Honda-Shadow-Spirit-VT750-VT-750_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35592QQitemZ4564020135QQrdZ1)

So now comes another question: Is installing a scootworks 2.5 rear drop the same as cutting 2.5 inches off the rear shock springs? And, when cutting 2.5 inches off the springs do I just take a ruler and measure from the top/ bottom of the spring or is there a special way of doing it?

Mr.Sinister

Most people cut off 2 to 3 rungs . Cutting 2.5 inches off would lower it 2.5 inches without any load . What it would do if you put weight [bike weight and rider weight ] on it might be another story . You would need a shock compresser to do that .

So it seems like it's just easier to go with Scootworks then. Thanks Sin.

I did mine without a bike jack . I don't suggest it unless you are as strong as me .Most people can not lift a 500lbs bike with one hand and turn a wrench with the other . It is kinda a funny story .

Over the last few days I have been toying with the idea of making my own struts. What gauge steel or aluminum should I use?
