Hi All

Iz been a long Time!! Anyways I am wondering if anyone can help me out with this mod! I want to swap my 1984 750 shadow fork tubes with those in my 02 750. The tubes in my 84 are about 3 inchs longer which i hope will give my 02 a bit more of a Raked look! Anyone have any helpful info for me!

Thanks

A simple fix would be to buy fork extensions. Billski is now producing them in various lengths.

Ya it might come to that but as I want to drop my 84 and raise my 02 if I could just swap them I could save some bucks!

By the way how's the riding weather out there? I hope to make a trip out that way again this summer. This time with the bike!

Thanks Mr. Sinister! Good to be back. I have not measured but by eyeballing them side by side they look to be the same size tubes!

Like Sinister said, if they are the same mm as the spirit, the swap should be no problem. Didn't realize you were looking to drop one and raise the other.

The weather out here has finally turned into summer. Been sunny the last two weeks and no rain in sight for the near future either. Shortlegs and I made a trip to Whistler/Pemberton last month. Met up with Shadow and a few others from another forum. If you plan on heading out this way, let me know and we'll try and hook up for a ride and some brews.

I'm not sure about the swap, but I can tell you that I just got Billski's 4" extensions and put them on the other day. I think there's a real noticeable difference... (top is before - bottom is after. sorry they're so dark...)

That is wicked! Thanks for the pics!! Definate motivation. How does it handle? I didn't notice but do you have the rear end dropped at all? Nice scoot by the way!

Mitch, one thing to look at with the swap is the fender and caliper mounts also. Also the axle diameter and springs. If the older bike is lighter the springs might compress more on the new (heavier) bike and not give you much of a difference at all.

Just a thought....

Handles pretty well - i did notice a little difference in handling (just in slow turns), but nothing you can't get used to. Also, the kick stand is now furthar off the ground, so it leans a little more when parked (the first time I set it on the stand, i almost shit myself - thought it was going to fall over).

Actually, I do have the back dropped (scootworks 2.5"). Gives the bike a pretty distint look (and thanks for the comps!)

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the extensions. And if I ever do get a raked triple tree (down the road), I should be sittin' pretty.

Good luck - let us know what you decide...

Thanks to all for the input. As for the calipers and fender, I would just be swaping the tubes not the case so the bottom half would remain the same. I went to the honda shop and got the parts print out for both years and it looks good but as the guy said honda usually tries to change things up often so they can charge you an arm an a leg for part that they could have easily reproduced for many years. Anyways I will keep you posted. Right now I can't find the right size wrench to take the caps off. 26mm is to small 27mm is to big and vise versa with standard 1" to small and 1/16" is to big. Go figure, I guess this is why we pay the proffesionals so much money to make life easy, expensive but easy! :assbeat:

Ya tried that!! Not good!! :furious2: Made a bit of a mess of the "nut". It seems to be pretty soft! I had to file off all the birs and pray that I didn't do to much damage!

I'm at work right now, but I'll check what size I used when I get home. I know it was standard though...

Go to home depot or lowes and pick up a cheap machinst caliper to get the measurement. Susan's bike is in storage so I can't get it for ya and the ones on my bike are a different size. As for boogering up the nut, why not get a set of new ones from Billski. I think he's making them now.

Whats the link to Billski's web site, or is there one?

Sorry for the delay, Mitch. The fork cap nuts are 15/16". Fit like a glove.

If you end up getting Billski's extensions, be sure to put the old o-rings on the extensions, and be careful getting them off. I checked on bikebandit.com today - a replacement set is 25 FUCKIN BUCKS! FOR O-RINGS! I think I'd rather cut the end off a rubber and use that instead...

If someone has the size of that o-ring I could see what I can find. o-rings are dirt cheap. Even if it's a Viton or EPDM material it shouldn't cost more then $1.00 for something around that size.
